Just keep in mind, their "first tier" of customer support probably can't authorize that kind of thing, and probably won't even know what the heck you are wanting. I complained about the crappy slow internet and bad ping

I had similar issues, and I complained enough that my ISP gave me a second, just plain stupid modem and a splitter, so now I have their fancy phone/modem/router/wifi one just for the phone, and a simple modem only box for my

It's a basic fact of the way Windows is designed. If you can get code to run on a Windows computer, you get a lot of power over that computer. Even more if the user is a local administrator. As someone that tests Windows computer ne

Hence why I put hacking in quotes...? I'm just pointing out that Dropbox is arguably jumping through hoops to get access to functionality that Windows gives to basically anything that gets a toehold on your system.

The very specific UAC one is secure, at least from anything that doesn't already have basically full control over your system, as it runs in the context of the SYSTEM account. The effect, and even much of the "alternate desktop&q

That was actually designed to avoid typing credentials into "faked" password dialogs. The above mentioned "Secure Desktop" with dimming is not designed for that, but for the, rather hilarious, fact that it is trivial fo

Trivially, in fact, KeePass does a fairly good job of it, mimicing everything down to the actual creation of a second, "secure" desktop. It's arguably more secure, though it's a little bit of a "false security"

Note that that is not what that "effect" is for. It's not, strictly speaking, even an actual "effect". Windows is creating and attaching another "desktop" to your screen, and putting the dialog there. T

My fav is IPMI. Many devices allow you to log in using cipher 0... basically, if you know the username, you get access. The rest... well, IMPI has a hash disclosure built into the protocol. If you can guess a username, you can get (and t

I use znc to fix the multiple devices issue. Admittedly, it does involve running a server, but I've got that handled. As far as the protocol, it's just irc... I connect to znc via irc, and it connects to freenode or wherever. N
