It's consistent if the author comes out and predicts other things non-tool (i.e. agentic) AI are likely to do in the future. Otherwise it's a suspiciously specific argument.

The Culture's not an anarchy, it's just a standard "liberal" (not exact on definitions) surveillance state. A lot of what's shown is 2003 Iraq war style preventative policing, but that's obvious selection effec

Is the statement about the watch a joke? I guess so, unless there's some conspiracy to trick non-owners...

Is that actually true? If you go along with something that gets everyone killed, there's no do-over. Even if the core of the dispute is on scientific fact.

Right, but human supremacy is an argument from power, or recommended power. Gain power, gain control, win. You are not required to care about animals.

Absolutely not, the other current effort is on a few Lexus systems, I don't know its current status. Accelerate by wire, but drive by wire.

I think the point is that not everything is commonly disputed, even if it's a "somewhat recent" discovery like lead causing problems.

Not in the near future, because compilers will still emit weird code in the presence of UB. The hardware enforces more stuff, and it makes it more likely you'll get a crash instead of the program continuing in a bad state, but it absol

How much time do you have? In real time, I'm not super optimistic. If you don't care about speed you're just limited by storage and maintenance.

I guess Paul Christiano is the right person, given his old idea of "500 AI alignment scientists for every theoretical physicist". Other candidates probably don't have enough experience directing large teams.

One of the major uses of IQ tests is to measure brain damage, otherwise why would they be mostly calibrated in the downwards direction? Who do you think pays for these things?

I don't agree, unless you really need to go for SBF style risk management. Predicting the future is hard, it's good to leave a buffer.

Can't you train a predictor on skull shape/bone length and IQ and go from there? Yeah there's no causation there, but you should be able to give a percentage that someone's IQ is above a certain number depending on high-

It depends what you mean by "antivaxer", what is the subclinical myocarditis rate for ACAM1000 again? (Not ACAM2000, I'm very specifically talking about ACAM1000)

You can say QM is deterministic either somewhat trivially in configuration space or with superdeterminism. That's probably good enough for God. Edit: or even Bohm, if you're pushing "initial state" to the breaking point.

Nah, I never understood it. You'd probably be better off writing your own from scratch that does exactly what you want it to do. I've written both MBR and EFI bootloaders, but for MBR it's probably better to copy at least som

Code based systems are still in, and classic McEliece could be extended to ~50 MiB for a keypair and still be way more practical than QKD. Just run the max current classic McEliece spec hybrid post quantum with X448.

Yeah, imagine if they didn't check and it turned out to work somehow. Various biological stuff would have probably been a better bet, I think they took the psy stuff too far in some places.
