For me, probably dwm. I almost forget that I'm using it, but in a good way. It has merged with my muscle-memory and never, ever fails.

I can't comment on Google, but we pay for AWS business support ($100 per month currently) and we can raise as many support tickets as we like and get nearly instant access to an engineer. Also, the quality of the support has been amazi

We've been using Proxmox VE ( https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Main_Page ) in production for a while. It's open source and free, and is a tweaked Debian with KVM/QEMU virtualization and also LXC container s

We (UK business) have a contractor who is ex-IBM and who says it all the time. It annoyed me at first but I've got used to it. That was the first time I'd heard it, but now I've become aware of it, I notice it a lot more.

At least it appears that there is actually a filling station to show for the money. I worked with people that worked in Afghanistan as contractors for the US and UK governments and they told me that often millions would spent on building a

Yeah, Delphi needs to die. I used it for a long time, and it was an excellent product for developing Windows applications when compared to the main alternatives, i.e. Visual C++ with MFC (the horror!) or VB6. It was fast, efficient, easy to

Me too. I have a real fascination for this Cambrian period of computing, even though I came into it via the strange world of home computers (Sinclair). By the time I got my hands on business computers, Wintel had won. I saved an S-100 machi

Same. Running Arch, my display driver had some kind of attack of the vapours and I had to reboot the box blind. Fun!

Always nice to have more alternatives, but I find either http://bliker.github.io/cmder/ (a tricked out console with a nicely tweaked git bash environment) or http://babun.github.io/ (Cygwin but easier

I was told by a Dell person (via the chat thing, naturally) that it would be released in about a week. If I bought either the Windows model or the official Linux one I'd wipe it and install Debian or Arch or Mint, but I'd still pr

I get this on my personal Google account, but our work Google Apps account doesn't show the change. I'd guess it's rolling out gradually, presumably with GA work customers getting it last.

I recently had to compare AWS and Azure for my company. I limited my comparison to AWS c3 and c4 class instances versus mid-range A and D class instances. I did some of my own quick benchmarks here http://browser.primatelabs.com&

Agreed. When I was looking at cloud providers recently I noticed that most of them make a claim along the lines of "$X percent of {Fortune 500,FTSE 100} companies use $OURPRODUCT" where $X is > 50%. My conclusions were:- * Most

I live in a tech bubble, but I see a pretty even distribution of iOS vs. Android devices. Is this a US versus Europe thing, perhaps? Android phones and tablets seem pretty popular among UK geeks - at least as much as iOS. In fact, I frequen

I was wondering if vCloud Director and vSphere Web UI were the same thing. From your comment, I infer that they aren't - is that right? I'm currently trying to build out virtual infrastructure on a trial from a preferred supplier

The headline made me think they were offering IRC bouncers (e.g. ZNC) as a service which might have been slightly interesting. Sadly, the reality was much less fun.

Trumpet was a fantastic piece of software. Strangely, I was only talking about it a couple of days ago. Happy to donate for the hundreds of hours I spent online with it, and the fun I had creating dialup scripts in it.
