Do doctors learn about surgery on the beach in those countries? Or do they work extremely hard for years and years? Together with millions of other highly specialized and trained people that effectively pay for the social safety net?

I agree. I'm not OP but I would answer like this: abuses of this technology are inevitable and can only be mitigated by counter-software (which leads to an arms race). The release of this source code could kickstart the development of

Isn't the situation completely analogous to other "ethical hacking" software? I distinctly remember a very similar discussion around firesheep 12 years ago: https://www.computerworld.com/article/2469667&#

It will not be limited to the internet. Have you looked at a magazine stand in the last 10 years? The content looks generated (not by AI) even today. Cheap books, cheap TV and cheap music will be generated.

Depends on what the miners are being powered with. Geothermal energy has very few emissions. If Iceland shuts down aluminium smelters in favor of bitcoin miners it is a net benefit.

The military industrial complex has destroyed millions of lives and poisoned counties for decades to come. The abolition of the system that is perpetrating these crimes should be the top priority for any environmentalist and humanitarian. G

Bitcoin is targeted because it is a threat to power, not because of any environmental concerns. The people who use it do not have to justify it for you or anyone else. That's what makes it successful.

This is because you don't live in a sanctioned country and you have a good social credit score. This is like saying "why do I need encryption, I don't have anything to hide". Many people do not have this privilege.

This is nonsensical. If you want to tax carbon, tax it regardless what it is used for. What you are describing penalizes somebody who uses clean energy for mining and ignores somebody who uses coal power for running his bot farm.
