I was expecting this to be more nooby based on the title. But instead they built an exploit that bypassed multiple input validation stages with clever hacks. Even going as far as to setup sub-domains to resemble the base domain. I'd no

When I think of 90s websites I think of a design trend where everything used tables, borders, and a crap load of gifs. A common design for sites is this basic pattern: [nav bar ...] [link1 ] content ... [link...] content ... Al

It's genuinely a difficult question because there are projects that have the exact same technical designs that are still legitimate projects. So how do you evaluate this? From my perspective it used to easier. I'd just look at the

I can see it now: 'your system is horribly and laughably insecure. Please don't launch with this plan.' Is then turned to: 'we have been independently audited by a third-party' (((no need to mention what they said))

Cheers, read the paper 10+ years ago. Nothing new or interesting in that time. Very impressive restatements of old ideas introduced by other people in typical pseudo-academic Protocol Labs style. Protocol Labs is famous for reinventing whee

The kings of marketing and buzz-words at it again trying to re-spin CDNs as their invention. IPFS doesn't solve persistence of data; doesn't solve churn in p2p systems; doesn't actually 'store' anything. Sounds cool

I'd never buy an ASUS laptop. They've never made good laptops. It's not exclusive to ASUS. All 'consumer' tier laptops are cheap plastic, disposable, crapware. Business laptops are much better.

You should focus on this tbh. People who have a network already aren't going to need as much help. If you could help people without a network find employment that would be tremendously positive. It's a hard problem though, very ha

I think it all comes down to the fears of investors. At larger companies they have to answer to share holders who are moody, pessimistic, and very bipolar. They will look at a companies revenue, see that its doing well, but still lose sleep

It's ok, sure it's stressful when something like this happens. Software is a hard field and the amount of things that can go wrong is immense. When I think about how few errors and downtime some of the larger services have I reali

Imagine a site like news.ycombinator.com. The browser uses that name to lookup the IP from a specialized server. So for the domain it might have this saved: A IP = ...1 AAAA IP = ...2 Where 'a' is the type of record. But there are
