Let's go a step further and use TAI to avoid leap seconds while we're at it.

It's interesting that they are able to continue improving video compression. You'd think that it would have all been figured out by now. Is this continued improvement related to the improvement of technology? Or just coincidental?

I was thinking the other day: if you replace the word "commercial" with "ad", it somehow seems much more ridiculous to be spending $50+ month for a video service, only to still have to sit through countless ads. It seems

Yeah, I mean it’s not the end of the world. It’s probably not worth adding backwards compatibility for config files yet - not while development is so rapid. It would just add maintenance baggage.

Just wanted to say thanks. I've been running my own homeserver for a little over two years now without any real issue. I somehow managed to convince 4 of my friends to use Riot and it's been great. We were originally using Group M

Come to the defense industry. If anything, the age bias is the other way around, and contrary to popular belief, there are some very cool cutting edge projects.

While electric cars will cost less over their lifespan (due to much less maintenance), they still cost a lot more initially, and I think that's the biggest hurdle right now. A lot of people can't drop $40k on a car, but they can s

It seems like over the last 5 years, Wine has improved a ton. Or at least - it seems way more active. Not sure why, but I suspect that Valve has a lot to do with it.

One time, I wrote a small network protocol stack to handle some proprietary UDP-based protocol that supported fragmentation. Since the header on each fragment contained the total message size, I was able to pre-allocate the full size of the

That probably depends on the industry. At my last job (embedded software for a defense contractor), I was actually the youngest at 28. The guy to the right of me was in his mid 60's, the guy behind me was 50, and my boss was 52. I thin

For what it’s worth, you can buy the DirecTV DECA adapters for like $20 on Amazon. They’re actually just MoCA adapters, but they run at a lower frequency than regular MoCA so they don’t interfere with the DirecTV signal. They work fine by t

I feel like this will be an easier migration from a software perspective. At least both architectures are 64 bit little endian, so all those buggy C programs that do illegal type casting might still work. One issue might be that X86 is pret

I thought most Ethernet PHYs don't lock actually to the clock, but instead use a FIFO that starts draining once it's half way full. The size of this FIFO is such that it doesn't under or overflow given the largest frame size
