Yes, I've felt this for years. By the end of the typical day I have absolutely no energy for anything. It seems to have been getting worse as well, the scope of my life becomes surviving the workday and nothing beyond that; no energy t

This is great, I was literally banging my head against a wall last night trying to determine how the length of the ECS was determined. What a lucky coincidence! I'm trying to build a small C# library to support reading image types to l

Exactly, and the other thing I think is missing from the belief money is always more valuable than time is there is a scaling limit to money in most cases. In your example you go from x to 4x but taking a developer in London with say a new-

On the hunt for file formats to pass I ended up implementing a parser for the CIF format https://github.com/EliotJones/BioCif It's great that these projects to create open data stores exist.

As little as possible. I think there's an extent to which the trend for 'memory hacking' is a little harmful. The field of modern software is too broad to possibly remember much of it so it's better to learn how to find

This list almost perfectly matches my frustrations when learning a new language, and to be honest it's why I don't bother anymore. I started off in Python and have looked at Ruby, Pony, Rust, JavaScript, etc so I'm aware ther

Sure, I guess by first step I was referring to the first thing when I sit down to start coding. There's all the stuff that comes before actually doing that, generally, though not always, the feature is driven by some front-end requirem

There's no silver bullet I guess but I think the trap that one could fall into here is to think of "the" frontend. There's a bunch of additional consumers of the data model even for a single web-app. Auditing, security,

Always interesting to read how others work. I'm a backend dev who does quite a bit of frontend though I deeply dislike the current state of frontend (bring back Webforms) For me it all starts with the database, always. Code, ux, networ

This hits on an important point I don't see discussed much and certainly not addressed as important. Debugging is (one of) the most important UX aspects of your code. Similar to code being read a lot more than written, you should prior

As everyone has already mentioned it's natural to feel like this and it's just a case of practice. A concrete suggestion that came to mind is isolate the simplest unit of functionality the project implements and try to implement i

Yeah, peaks in story count nowadays are relatively smaller than peaks from 2007-2009ish. You can use the "Display as % of stories" button which is right of the "Group data by" drop-down to show the data as a % of daily&#
