The cliches about summer and winter being "always exceptional" are from the 1870s. The effects of climate change surely weren't visible then (though I believe the climate was still warming from the "little ice age")

My point is that almost any effort is several order of magnitudes smaller than that of relocating humanity to another planet. Especially when the effort risks of being completely vane because you risk bringing the problem with yourself. A

Ok, so: 1) there is a plant blight that attacks all plants (pretty unrealistic), and instead of getting rid of it they build a giant space rocket to colonize worlds many light years away, leaving everyone else to die. Completely absurd. 2)

I agree up to a point. I do think as well that there are the downsides you mentioned to the US business and social culture. But at the same time it produces a clear supremacy in a lot of sectors. We might be able to find a sweet European mi

True, I don't think we need to copy the technology: that is probably easily available, you just need good engineers and money. The problem is exactly the second you mention: why is it that EU companies don't have the market share

Definitely, I didn't mention them only because I'm more familiar with the culture of the US (although indirectly). One thing we should certainly learn from China (and I guess other Asian cultures) is to copy first, and only when g

I agree completely: as a European, I find these projects pathetic. We need the humility to learn something from the US and create an environment and a framework in which private companies can thrive, instead of being constantly dragged do

The EU sanctions listed in the wikipedia article are quite old, as the JCPOA came in force in 2016. As for the UN resolution, it's strange that you quote UN resolution 1929 from 2010, when resolution 2231 from 2015 is summarised as &qu

Then if it's fine I don't see the problem of "setting your kitchen on fire" for a century or so. When it's over you can always move and return the land to its uninhabited state. Right?

Not at all. Now just go and tell the Alaskans that they can move out because you don't think that making their land uninhabited is "inherently a bad thing".

1/3 of all jobs in Alaska are provided by the oil and gas sector. How much climate change do you think is needed to balance the cumulative benefits of oil extraction in the last 50 years?

Oil and gas still provide 1/3 of all jobs in Alaska. What is striking is how much climate change has contributed to the economy of Alaska.
