You need the admins either way, AWS does not help with that. Most problems from experience are with the application (Database, Memory, Locking, ...) not with the infrastructure (Load balancer, Linux, ...). [Edit]: The problems Reddit, Digg,

This is what's amazing me too. AWS is so much more expensive, even if factoring TCO in. It's good for very fast scaling and experimentation tough. I've did some very rough calculations in a blog post some time ago http://codemonkeyism.com/

I once worked at a place that had a code base that contained more or less parts in Ruby, Perl, Java and PHP. It was not fun at all to keep enough knowledge in the company over the years to maintain this nightmare.

I thought alot about "Ofcourse, you should always dodge the question to let them give a number first" and I'm not sure this is true anymore. Even Jack Chapman from "How to make $1000 a Minute" (highly recommended) is not sure any longer. I

I hire mainly in Germany - Berlin to be specific. So sorry, I haven't any opinions on hiring abroad.

Programming Java and C#, database development etc. It usually is not for more than some months, people would usually negotiate a lower price if the duration of the project/work is longer.

This will exactly end like Infocom adventures. They are mostly nice, but quite often you hunt for the exact phrase the parser understood (but to be fair, it happened more often in Magnetic Scrolls). But would you call using a text adventure

A programmer can code in English (though a programming language is easier, more concise, easier to understand) or in a programming language. A non-programmer cannot write code, neither in English nor in programming language.

Does the introduction of MySQL without InnoDB mean they can also remove this from the community edition (and bug fixes) without getting into trouble with the EU? They still provide a dual licensing strategy with the same code base then.
