Depends what you mean by average. If you've been programming in objective-c; that most likely means you understand memory management; small-talk style oo etc. Corporate Java programmers have forgot this stuff, yet they will always be in dem

By above average he means specialised skills in a specific talent or skill. Thus being above average in that specific talent or skill; however below average in everything else. Division of labour.

In the UK these are defiantly not classed as middle class jobs. Heck teachers are only JUST about considered lower middle class in the UK. Working on the shop floor is not a nice job. Humans are just not designed for fitting one component f

Well it depends. You could probably never stop learning the tools or the new languages; they're continually re-invented. However you can certainly become bored with it; learning new tools and languages becomes a skill in its self. At which

It was meant to be about database design, tables and sql. Not access specifically. http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2012/jan/11/digital-lite... has some more examples.

Hackers are not that elite, it's probably the least elite club. If you want to make or tinker with things you're probably welcome regardless of education or background. However being just plain offensive is another matter.

Before I dropped ICT; a project in year 9 involved designing a database. It's usually taught in access, I did it in MySQL. I received low marks because of that.

Do you teach 'hardcore' cs? Like the master method for working out big O? That's is what I think he is trying to say people might be missing. There are plenty of tutorials on the internet about data structures, relatively few about algorit

That describes almost every engineering job, which is not a trade. Trades build, engineers/architect design which the trades then build. Software can't be separated like that because the software is the design and implementation.
