I know that when explaining what interfaces are, I just call them static duck-typing, and then go on from there.

You say the Y combinator, as presented, could be done in Haskell, but it's got an infinite type, so it's a bit trickier to get working.

When it said Hipmunk, I thought it was talking about the Haskell bindings ( http://hackage.haskell.org/package/Hipmunk ) to the chipmonk physics library. I got all exited thinking that someone had made a great haskell app for android.

What is code, or application, but information. It's all just bits. Yet I can go to the store and buy photoshop and it comes in a shrinkwrapped box. And I'm okay with that, they but a lot of effort into making that tool, and I don't have

This is terrible. Question, under that law, do you need to store plaintext passwords if you hash the passwords on the browser side, since you don't "collect" the actual password from the user, as it never leaves their computer?

But I doubt that you could maintain it without knowing how it worked. The moment anything went wrong, you would be in trouble. I'm sure you could build a car that looked pretty, but not one that ran well.

I think the reason tail recursion was not talked about is that it is different in Haskell, because of the laziness. You have to worry about unevaluated thunks building up more than stack space.

The very useful property of subtypes, i.e., that they may be substituted for their parents without causing error, is in conflict with mutable state.

Hey, this also applies to minecraft. As a walk down the halls at my school, I hear people talking about what they have build, or the cave they escaped. It's talk-aboutable. Not to mention the joy of pure creation.

Yes, I found some of Asimov's science books in the school library, and I think the reason he wrote such good science fiction was that he could explain stuff really well. He really _got_ his settings, and the same when he wrote about real s

I agree somewhat. I think that I, personally, learn best when I have some challenge I can't solve yet, and learn skills to solve it. An example: In Calc, my teacher was teaching volume of some function rotated around the axis. Integrals

I would love to have a first day like this. I know that it took me several frustrating days to get a hello world up and running on my last project. Getting the existing code base to compile and go on the first day is very nice.
