FTA: "Yesterday, py-free-threading.github.io launched! It's both a resource with documentation around adding support for free-threaded Python, and a status tracker for the rollout across open source projects in the Python ecosyste

Since the quality is pretty listenable, one use case I can see is youtubers who want to do voiceovers on their videos, but not be linked to their real world identity. Heck, I can even see broadcasting uses. Imagine if every on-air personali

According to Wikipedia the lastest meteor lakes have a peak draw of 57w. My entire Mac Studio draws 38w.

You’re the one that brought battery life into it, which certainly does put power consumption in play.

I will say that my M1 Mac runs Factorio like an absolute dream. There is an ARM native port now and it’s really good. It something like doubled UPS over the old Intel binary. One of the big advantages the M chips have is the insanely fast i

What increase has intel made over the same time period? Feels like a lot less. CPUs are mature technology.

Hasn't each gen been like 20-30% performance? Isn't that better than what AMD and Intel have managed?

No, they’re very long because steel wheel on steel rail has much much much lower coefficient of friction than rubber on asphalt. If they brakes any harder they wheels would just lock up and skid, both running the wheels AND taking longer to

The mechanics or more or less entirely unlike factorio. It’s this really weird city sim / train game hybrid that is pretty crappy at both halves.

I don't like Reading Mode in general because it feels like I lose too much context - like it's too easy to forget what site I'm even on.

I'm not even sure derailments is the worst flaw. As soon as one train has to slow down, you're going to get the mother of all cascading effects - trains are slow to brake, but their acceleration is quite a bit slower than that, an

Yes. The last operational towers were a few up in the Appalachians operated by US Cellular and were shut down in January of this year.

Probably not. Only 256GB of storage. Video, even with a bit of compression, will chew that up pretty quick.

You also would need to consider the braking ability of the train BEHIND you.

Urban systems are generally single-user networks, which makes life a lot easier. For main line railways that assumption doesn't hold, which is where things kinda fall apart. It's a bit like the old copypasta from the slashdot days

Saying trains should be closer than braking distance is like saying with devs shouldn’t support https. It’s something no expert in the field wound agree with.

Trams often have rubber tires, which gravely increases acceleration and braking. Also, 80m isn’t that long. Trains on the the DC metro are pushing 200. 8 cars long.

That’s a metric crapton of ifs. I would never get on such a system, it is fundamentally unsafe.

That isn’t how trains work. They take miles to stop. Being able to stop any train on the network without risking it running in to another is not negotiable.

He was one of the graphics contractors not a dev. It is not very good. The game design is just and, failing to be either a good train sim or an interesting strategy game. It basically flopped in early access.

Given that copyrighting is automatic at the instant of creation, that is, um, debatable. Slapping 3 lines in LICENSE.TXT doesn’t override the Berne convention.
