To be fair in many cases the actual clothes aren't much better. I've had two pair of the same pants, same brand, same size fit noticeably differently.

Similarly, all apple varieties are propagated like this. Apple cultivars are not genetic. If you plant seeds, you're going to get some random apples, which probably aren't very good. The cultivars are all produced via cuttings.
