This is great, really accessible! I feel like for me the par operation ⅋ is the thing I struggled with getting intuition for the most, and I think that I am (and everyone else is!) still kind of figuring out the consequences of it, and a lo

I don't think concatenative languages immediately obviate structured editing, but they sure do help.

Precise causes of RSI are, as far as I know, still largely unknown, but (at least as far as current hypotheses go) there does have to be some kind of strain involved. From a quick search, it seems piano players do suffer from a high inciden

I don't think there's _fundamentally_ anything hard about voice coding, but our current systems are terribly designed for it. We need programming languages that are much more keyword- rather than symbol-heavy, or more efficient sy

Nice! I've never managed to try one myself, but I did assume something like that would be the case. To be fair to them, they never really promise hand ergonomics — just the freedom to type while in weird positions. I guess it's

That sounds really cool! I'd love to see it when you've got something more concrete. I assume you're already aware of the KeyMouse and the AlphaGrip? https://www.keymouse.com/ https://alphagrip.c

I agree, I never wanted to get into mechanical keyboards per se — I was always just on the lookout for an ergonomic layout. Mechanical switches are cheaper and cheaper these days, though, and I suspect the premium on high-end keyboards now

(As non-curmudgeonly as possible, this is a genuine question I promise!) I see a bunch of projects and companies these days calling their product an ‘OS’. I'm not too much of a stick-in-the-mud to not see parallels between traditional

The data in a bookmark may change, but it should preserve some property of interest — otherwise why bookmark it? Page 1 (a.k.a. the top few results with no pagination) has the property of being the selected top of HN, which is an interestin

If you believe that the user wants to see everything around a particular price point, e.g. because they've ordered their search results by price, then the correct cursor token is the price point of the top item (or the price point of t

The example URL here, though, is still not (helpfully) bookmarkable because the contents of page 2 will change as new items are added. To get truly bookmarkable list URLs, the best approach I've seen is ‘page starting from item X’, whe

This parallel has been drawn. Charlie Stross [0] in particular thinks the main difference is that pre-digital AIs are capable of behaving much faster, so that other entities (countries, lawmakers, …) have time to react to them. [0]: https:

From two directions: There are programming languages that store code in some kind of non-hierarchical format. For example, Unison ( https://www.unison-lang.org/ ) stores code in a database just as you suggest, and projects it

In a sense, Prolog _is_ a database query language. The base facts in Prolog are equivalent to the rows of a table. You can also ‘table’ predicates with variables (over a finite subset of values) by memoizing the results.

Except that swap on OpenZFS still deadlocks 7 years later ( https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/7734 ) so you're still going to need LUKS for your swap anyway.

This is a further step in the same programme. The programme itself is somewhat agnostic as to the underlying dynamics; the ‘stellar resolution’ mechanism (Eng's terminology, not Girard's, who AFAIR doesn't name the system) is
