I used to work with a very gifted old school systems engineer who used to run the network and systems behind a country TLD; I remember him telling me about how he sent an email from the TLD itself out to the world - something that baffled a

I’m a lapsed catholic. I look forward to seeing how the new Pope chooses to use his position. I saw Francis as a decent, respectable man, and especially took heart in his and the church’s recent rational missive on AI. Leo XIV has to rise t

All depends on how they market it. Wind down windows to me today is an aesthetic statement - “we are selling a cheap, no frills vehicle - look see! Even wind down windows” Such positioning could be what the intended customer base react well

Does LILO work on EFI systems or is GRUB preferred in that case? I’ve not built a Slackware box in a long time… maybe this evening I’ll see about putting a VM together

Silly tangentially related question; I like to think of myself as fairly competent in the Linux and unix world. In the unix systems of the past was it easier to hold a more complete understanding of the system and its components in your hea

More people are capable of buying T-shirts than have the understanding to buy and operate their own domain. This doesn’t seem like a surprise to me.

From some of the interviews i saw at B580’s launch, it seems like Intel know the shortcomings of the Alchemist and Battlemage architectures, but weren’t able to change them before launch. Of course these are parts that have been in the work

I’m really hopeful for the future of Intel’s GPU pipeline. B580 proved there is an audience for their parts. If a C770 or C970 card can prove to be a contender like B580 is at the respective price point then people will buy them.

Personally I find tmux’s default split keys to be a bit obtuse, personally I like to use hyphen and pipe for horizontal and vertical splits. Likewise i enable vim keybindings, mouse mode, and if you use a Mac and iTerm selecting text will a

I enjoyed this - but I do feel it missed out on Intel’s big win in successfully swaying Apple to their side with the Mac, and the dramatic fall from favour Intel’s products had with Apple. I feel it would have gone well with the iPhone sect

This sort of issue is a relatively regular occurrence in the server fleet I and my team deal with. A handful of servers a month (out of thousands) end up misbehaving - a system won’t respond to a power up command from the BMC, a PCI-E devic

I miss the days of the regional scenes in music. These seem to be long past us now. Using metal as an example; the 80’s and 90’s as an example had several distinct vibrant scenes, Bergen’s Black Metal, Gothenburg’s Melodeath, Tampa Bay’s De
