No objection to the usability assertions, but there's a huge problem with this idea that Craigslist will now always control the classifieds market no matter what they charge. This meme has caught on recently and it's time for it to die. It

This is really no surprise. I was just wondering the other day what pre-packaged, universally-accepted name would be given to the 9/11 attacks in history books.

What he says is very true, but let me take it one step further. Great marketers spend their time developing products/services/stories that don't drop off, but they also spend their time encouraging their first circle to talk to their secon

Maybe I'm missing something, but let's summarize the changes: - De-emphasized search, which is probably the way that at least 50% of the users navigate the site. - Added a customer testimonials banner that should and would be immediately ov

There's another date formatting library if you're using Prototype, that I've used for a few things (although I have to say, I like the OP better). It was kind of hard to track down and doesn't seem to have any continuing support, but is us

This article begins with a false analogy in its comparison of the plights of railroads and newspapers. Newspapers are not in the "newsprint" business, as suggested here, but rather in the journalism business. The mechanism for distributio

This is a representation of classic game theory. If all participants cooperate to drive as described, the traffic clears. If nobody else helps to open up space, however, you will personally arrive at your destination slower by driving pas

The fact that this is even a story is pretty distressing. As far as I can tell, the guy's gotten good results, which is much more than I can say for plenty of "qualified" people in Washington.

There was a post on HN some time back from former house speaker Newt Gingrich, who is a fairly outspoken advocate on this issue: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/08_45/b41070852...

I don't really agree with this assessment. With the release of IE8, we also saw the browser upgrade coming through automatic windows updates. IE will eventually probably accept this as much as safari and firefox, thereby keeping most user

This is a cool idea, but actually using it is incredibly jarring. I think it works on the iphone because your typing speed is so much slower. I found myself confused and second-guessing my typing a lot more using this with a keyboard.

My main issue with this solution is that it takes the decision out of the user's hands. Granted, in some cases it is potentially beneficial to unmask the password, but I would not want a site to assume that I'm okay with this approach. Im
