It's not faster than the SPA approach. It's just not very much slower. It used to be much slower below using CDNs was common.

Pick a few random sites from the Gatsby showcase on their homepage and run them through webpagetest.org Simple Testing.

(3) is incorrect, Gatsby initial page load times are mostly really bad. (2) is both overstated and overvalued. It's overstated because loading a static HTML page from a CDN is extremely fast. Too many people who point at this advantage

What does a rebrand signal? That investors are unhappy and that the founders need to align the brand with the vision... Or is there a more positive reason to rebrand? I would think you don't rebrand if things are going super well, righ

Interesting. I remember there was a check-in aggregator app, you checked in using that app and it checked you in to Foursquare, Gowalla, and others. IIRC I think Google Maps might have added a check-in feature... it was a crazy time.

Sure, if you stretch it far enough every social network is in some way a check-in app.

How crazy is it that at one point there were 5 or 6 check-in apps, it was all the rage and now there is essentially 1 (which itself is neglected). There were startups that were getting serious funding with the hopes of being 3rd place in th

SARS wasn't able to spread nearly as quickly as the novel coronavirus, possibly because of the incubation period and prevalence of asymptotic carriers in this coronavirus. That wasn't true of SARS which made people very sick so it

What I want to know is how long after the lockdown is lifted will we know if it's going to spread again? 2 weeks?

What if you visit a link within the home screen app that takes you to another domain? Presumably if you kept using it with ever returning to the original domain the clock would be ticking.

Cool, so now my movie library app has to host terabytes worth of movies and deal with copyright laws, just because Apple assumes that anyone using IndexedDB must have malicious intent.

It's both. They could restrict these APIs to "installed" web apps via the web app manifest file, if they were to adopt that. Maybe they will in the future, but for now they've just made web apps far less powerful.

Many restaurants are advertising curbside service. I assume this means they bring it to your car. I'm just trying to understand how this all works.

Somewhere between 70 and 80% of people have credit cards, so most people. No this doesn't help everyone, we need the government to step up. Lending money is what banks do, so I don't see why they are going to be upset about people

People need to stop acting like Rust is flawless. There are real issues that make it not an ideal choice in some situations (notably embedded). Issues include: 1. Rust is very slow to compile. This is bad when rapid iteration is important.

I don't agree with this sentiment. People learn different ways. I personally learn through trial and error, and explanations of things that I haven't been able to "touch" yet don't help me at all.

I can't speak for Odin but Zig (also a niche language) is compatible with all C libraries so the ecosystem side is very good.

Yeah having 2 ecosystems where some stuff depends on GC and some stuff doesn't is always going to be a turnoff to me. Glad that Odin and Zig made the decision to not.

I really like Nim but GC makes it a nonstarter for embedded devices. So to me Nim is in the same category as Go.
