Same excuse Firefox used to always make for its slowness; it's extensions fault. In the case of Atom, it's slower without any extensions installed, in my experience.

Yeah, their JavaScript is better. Electron has nothing to do with the speed.

The turning point was when Larry Page became CEO. For years Google tried to beat Facebook with open specs/protocols like XMPP, but there was also Activity Streams and others (PubSubHubbub). None of those really took off. I think Larry

If your model is restricting how people view content, then yes, using an open platform like the web is not a great choice. Instead try delivering your content as a native app. There you can do a much better job of preventing them from inter

Whats funny is that Google Wave was basically a direct predecessor to these types of apps and they killed it before the technology really had a chance to catch up to the vision.

That's not how the web works. Websites give you their website for free. Your web browser does a GET / and their server responds 200 OK with some content. How you view that content once it is transferred onto your computer is 100%

Yes, you do downsize salaries. Paying Jill less than Bob where Jill is a better worker because she lives in Little Rock Arkansas and Bob lives in NYC is downsizing Jill's salary. Jill can do better. Hopefully other remote companies see

Thanks, knowing this I would avoid working for Zapier and would tell others not to, as you don't pay based on merit, but based on "what you need" based on cost of living. If a person is not limited to employment within a comm

Question: How many profitable companies are out there that started their lives as mobile apps? The PC birthed Microsoft, Adobe, VMWare. The web gave us Google, Amazon, and Facebook as giants. I guess Instagram would probably be profitable

Progressive enhancement isn't about people with JS turned off. It's about resiliency to failures. That might be network congestion, it might be a mistake in your code, or something else.

Yeah, it's really only useful for game dev and other math heavy use-cases. In normal JavaScript, which could also benefit from threads, you use Objects and Arrays, which can't be transferred.
