I don't know if "all the modern languages facilities" was a goal of Rust from the start. It seemed like the initial goal was to be able to develop a web browser with memory safety. "all the modern languages facilities&qu

Yeah, they won't, which is the point. Magnet links are not in Google results either. So having the browser support the protocol is pretty important in this case.

"Innocent" implies there is an injustice / crime of some sort taking place, but there is not in this case.

Keep in mind that Firefox is a "user agent", their job is not to make websites happy, it's to make their users happy. Ad-blocking is a lot like using a DVR, or a VCR. Someone sends you data and you have the right to not view

This is sort of unfortunate news to me, as I take this as a sign that they won't do adblocking by default. I think this is a mistake; users want ads to be blocked. Especially on mobile, where it's more important from a perf perspe

Great post, I like comparisons like this because its about implementing something practical. I like to see how the languages do in the real world.

Pure speculation, I wonder if their contract with Google forbids them from having ad blocking as part of the browser. At least if I was a company paying another company millions of dollars I wouldn't let them block my income stream in

Some feedback: If you are going to market your browser as privacy focused, it has to block ads by default. As far as I can this one does not block ads at all. Good initial experience but please block ads.

Yep, it leaves out ideas that are no longer en vogue but has every idea that is currently en vogue. So in 20 years when those ideas are themselves thrown out, it will feel like a language of the 2010s.

Rust is a programming language for people who like programming languages. Every feature under the sun. Seems like the new Scala in that regard. I'd definitely use it if I was building a web browser or something else where C++ was prev

I like this approach too. npm at least, and perhaps other package managers, are replicating DNS a bit too much for my taste, by providing their own (centralized) namespace. Why not use the existing namespace that is DNS (which is decentrali

That's silly, customized built-ins are not an essential feature. They are a nice to have. You can get by without ever using them, which is indeed what most people do. As does the subject of this discuss, the Lightning Web Components do

I understand that, but how much into consideration? Let's just make up some numbers, if 1% of reading of Rust code takes place in environments without code highlight, then it should have been 1% of the consideration. Is that the case?
