Completely agree on the reliability front...but I don't think mentioning it on some guy's 3rd party GitHub project is going to help all that much with that.

It doesn't seem like they are "providing" cloud models. They have their backend able to interface with whatever endpoint you want, given you have access. It's plainly obvious when interacting with 3rd party providers tha

The point of the endpoint is to be able to standardize my codebase and have an agnostic LLM provider that works the same. Continuous batching is helpful for this type of thing, but it really isn't everything you need. You'd ideall

I hope some of the opensource inference servers start supporting that endpoint soon. I know vLLM has added some "offline batch mode" support with the same format, they just haven't gotten around to implementing it on the Open

Right, and then they just enjoy defacto immunity in the criminal system due to their proximity to the other arms of justice (judges, prosecutors, etc). So that hardly ever matters, even if it is technically possible.

Right, this decision devalued everyone's purchased hardware by at a minimum the value of the fee, but likely much more. I simply wouldn't consider one knowing about that fee, reducing the pool of purchasers further.

I saw this in the thread elsewhere, but it was a great point, so I'll repeat it: https://www.kff.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Figure-1-12.p ... Where on the chart did Obamacare get passed / im

About military satellites specifically? I'd say most governments are lying about something about them just about every time they mention them (possibly by omission)

Neither do these models. The calculations I saw claiming some absurdly high energy or water use seemed like an absolute joke. Par for the course for a journalist at this point.

Yup, partial indexes have been a part of PG for decades, and partitioned tables (on tenant) will have different indexes per client automatically. This would be fine.

You could also just continue pre-training of an existing foundation model. Would still be cheaper by not starting from zero.

Yeah, I do think that's possible with LLM, just too slow and expensive to be usable in most settings.

I wish there was a similar model like this, but for (long context) text. Would be extremely useful to be able to semantically "chunk" text for RAG applications compared to the generally naive strategies employed today. If I someho

I think the work on multi-token prediction[0] within a single turn could be a significant development that makes byte-level tokenization models more practical. This approach allows the model to predict multiple tokens in parallel, potential

Eh, with the degradation of coding performance in ChatGPT I made the switch. Seems much better to work with on problems, and I have to do way less hand holding to get good results. I'll switch again soon as something better is out.

How do you know the WAL was not lost during transmission, or the server crashed before transferring the WAL even though there were writes after the last WAL you have in your backup? That's why.

Wasn't arguing it did. It was a genuine question about the defaults. When I was younger I just didn't understand how a company could legally embargo publishing benchmarks for their software. After being in the industry for 15+ yea

Wait, when did the defaults for MySQL get more conservative than Postgres? I've heard the opposite for decades, but it's been like 9 years since I touched MySQL... Agreed with this being a bad benchmark though.

It helps that you can pretty easily frame a bidirectional task in a directional way. For example, fill in the middle tasks. You can have a bidirectional model directly fill in the middle... Or you could just frame that as a causal task by

I think what some people miss, is that with the right training dataset, you can make the model follow the system prompt (or other "levels" of the prompt) in some hierarchical order. Right now we are just learning how to do that we

Also, a whole bunch of research is done with public dollars from either universities, or grants to private companies. Those are then always commercialized by a for-profit company.
