A lot of the criticism from OP is assuming that the slides exists in a vacuum and that the slides are the presentation. Short bullets? Yeah? It's just a reminder of what was presented in the main talk. They are not supposed to contai

Any benefit of using a VM over docker container here? Since you seem to use the terminal only, without any graphical applications. Containers should be more lightweight and dockerfiles allow quick and reproducible changes to the guest OS.

Academic science discovers continuous integration. In the software world, it's often desired to have a steady stream of small, individually reviewable commits, that each deliver a incremental set of value. Dropping a 20000 files change

Github copilot plugin is decent. It's not going to write a whole app for you, but it accelerates repetitive stuff, can give suggestions you didn't think of or save you a trip to the documentation.

The length of the required abbreviation grows over time, while content you put in commit messages sticks around. Meaning a commit done in year 2005 may have gotten away with "Fixes: abcd" and was unambiguous at that time, whereas

Surprised to see the line count go up so much, 56K LOC of C++ to 75K of Rust. The blog attributes it to rustfmt using less oneliners. Even so, i would believe that should be a small factor compared to the heaps of duplicate code you get fro

Remarkable. With an ide you just press the hot key for next error and bam, it takes you to the exact line. (No you don’t need a mouse for this.) In fact, with lsp you wouldn’t even write the error in the first place, saving you a big contex
