Well, Symfony2 itself only until very recently was using some of the ZendFramework libraries internally (and Fabien often praised ZF), which I would say comes as a proof that it is a solid code, even if it's obviously lacking in some parts

ZF is from a totally different league than CakePHP or Wordpress. Yes, a bit ancient today but in many parts it's a solid, well-written, flexible and extensible code well-suited for more "enterprise" needs. Probably more "production-ready" t

It's not only Symfony2, PHP has a lot of high-quality projects going on: Zend Framework, Doctrine, Solar/Aura, Twig, Lithium, Jackalope, FLOW3 and probably much, much more.

For me (and I'm surprised it's not on a list): filtering incoming content. In this regard G+ is really lacking (you can't hide a person, similar posts (or the same post shared by many of your contacts) are not grouped together, etc.). Circl

I have different kind of problem, but related to this one: Spotify is partly owned by major labels, so when I pay those 9.99€ I help those guys survive, whereas I'd prefer them to go bankrupt and have a totally different model of music indu

For one thing: user interface. The one of Rdio is pretty confusing, whereas the one of Spotify is, for me at least, the best UI of a music player ever. That's the great thing about Spotify (and I think it's often overlooked): it's not only

Already discussed in http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1854783 with the same consensus, it's a terrible guide. Read Crockford, Stoyanov, Bolin instead.

So you'd basically want Nokia to make UI harder to use just because of those rare cases when someone borrows his phone to the person he/she doesn't trust?

I think that using swipe as the main (almost exclusive) way to navigate around the phone's functions is indeed, well, not revolutionary, but (at least to some extent) innovative and yes, also "new, fresh, remarkable". Sure, UI borrows some

Please don't put all of post-communism-counties into one basket, as there are vast differences between them how they are dealing with democracy/capitalism. Russia is quite a special case here and unfortunately most of the times is an exampl

Dunno, maybe that's the other one but as far as I know CouchSurfing is still alive and kicking (see: http://www.couchsurfing.org - they claim to have almost 3mln users), it's just that it isn't a commercial thing.

I know you can do it, but it produces quite an overhead and it's ugly. But that's for another discussion ("sad things in JS" maybe) - here my main point was that, no, public/protected/private is not a dumb idea in dynamic languages.

Recently at my company we're writing a lot of JS and its' lack of "public/protected/private" doesn't make it easier to maintain or test. Actually, it's quite frustrating because you know you can't test it properly - everything public? it's

Well, but isn't that what the whole problem is about? Doesn't matter if it's BBC, iTunes or Spotify - it's that the country-based licensing model doesn't work in the age of Internet.

Of course 100% code coverage won't make your code better in every possible aspect, nor it guarantee that tests are perfectly written, but at least a) the tough parts of the code won't be skipped during the test b) you will have cleaner, mor
