For what's it worth, some of these apps are differently packed Chrome extensions. Write Space[1] for example. Therefore, you do have to install it, it works only on Chrome and has all the "app properties". On the other hand, while it does u

The explanation (CAPTCHAs should be simple for humans; we don't say it's unbreakable) still doesn't address the underlying problem. It is too easy. I have no idea how to do image recognition and yet I could use this to scrape the addresses.

This article is a perfect example of a bad design and why typography matters. When you first look at it, there is nothing that suggests that this is an interview. The questions are in no way visually differentiated from the answers. As such

Shouldn't the nonce be different for each password rather than for each install (I take it that by "install" you mean a server or an application installation)? Nonce-per-password is used in BCrypt and while I don't know much about security,

I agree. The article actually contains the "if u cn rd ths..." phrase and it's a nice touch. However, it would be better to keep the original title and mention the phrase in the comments.

I think he means it the other way: e-mail addresses ending with facebook.com could signal "this is a genuine person, not a spammer".

Jonathan Blow (the author of the Braid game) gave this talk on September 27 2010. It's about addictive elements in games such as FarmVille and how that may not be so swell, all things considered. The talk is about 1 hour 45 mins long; downl

I used to drink ungodly amounts of Red Bull which I stopped doing. I drink a lot of water and a lot of tea (usually Earl Gray, Gunpowder or Pu-erh). Once a week I make three infusions of Mate and about three times a week I get a mug of hot

Progressive enhancement is a better way of dealing with hover and similar features than avoiding them altogether. When I'm using PC, mouse and a non-Lynx browser, I absolutely want to take advantage of JavaScript, hover and any other featur

It sounds perfectly feasible to me. Apple is no stranger to prototyping. That doesn't mean it's gonna be shipped any more than that code you've written for that new project idea you were exploring.

You can use the Android Scripting Environment[1] which supports Python, Perl, Ruby, Lua, JavaScript, Tcl and things you've probably never heard of before. Their FAQ says you can build APKs too. There is a Clojure port for Android[2], and I

To my (limited, I admit) knowledge of databases every one of these reasons was a reason to use CouchDB as well. When the author got to the real arguments, he kept comparing MongoDB to SQL databases and the jab at CouchDB (and the other non-

Yes that would work. You could go a bit further, though: Set your view to emit keys this way: [user,message_id] you can query the view using: msgview?startkey=[user]&endkey=[user,{}] which will give you all the messages fo

A jchrisa pointed out, you can't get more granular than per-database read restriction using just CouchDB. However, you can put the database behind a proxy and use lists and shows (that get passed the user info) to restrict the read access.

I was wondering what the theory had to say about the cosmic microwave background. The answer: "we don't know yet". Still, it's great that someone tries to find new perspectives to look at. I wish them good luck in their findings.

Exactly. This is definitely not a one-wins-all situation. I have dreamed of a tablet device ever since I've seen Star Trek. And while iPad is the closest thing to it of all the projects currently for sale, it is not the one I hope to have.
