I wish I'd kept a tally of how many times this story has been posted on HN in the last week. It has to be over 10 at this point (and I wouldn't be surprised if it was over 20)

Everyone I've spoken to who went to Mix11 came out of it feeling better about Silverlight not worse. What I've heard is the message at Mix11 was that Silverlight was being presented as Microsoft's preferred native environment going forward

But see your logic is exactly the problem. Ideas are opinion. Agenda doesn't matter when you are expressing an opinion. Because the opinion is biased by its nature. It matters when you are claiming to express a fact because then your agen

There's a difference between rules/law and morality. I don't dispute what he did was against the Metafilter rules but that doesn't in itself make it wrong from a moral standpoint. At least no more wrong than people who post off topic stuf

But that goes back to my original question of "Why is it bad?" The point I'm trying to make is we shouldn't automatically assume something is bad just because our first instinct says so. In this case our first instinct reacts to misleading

What exactly is wrong with a famous person having sock puppets? The opposition to this sort of thing defies logic to me. To quote a comment on Metafilter... Scott, if you wanted to sign up for Metafilter to defend your writing, that would

A few points... Your CPI point is nonsense. The graph compares the growth of expenses to other consumer products. So subtracting CPI from the college costs and then comparing that number isn't comparing apples to apples. The fact that the

Perhaps the problem is people like you who are so convinced of the infallibility of Higher Education that you assume there must be some illogical reason for criticizing it. So we have to keep hammering the point. Or perhaps it's that many

I'm not sure the point is to stifle industrial development as much as it's to show we've built our society on several "facts" that might not be entirely accurate. Further I think the author is trying to say people in our society don't ques
