Hey! My memory of this is imperfect and I joined as the project was already underway, but I believe there were two companies, yes. The main POC at the second company that got the project completed was Rebecca Heineman [1] from Contraband En

Yeah, EV Nova was HUGE. The content was primarily the product of ATMOS studios in Australia. It started out as a plugin for EV Override, but Ambrosia bought the rights and helped turn it into the 3rd iteration of the game. The original EV w

I was also a fan before I was an employee. I know the love they inspired! I had moved on from Ambrosia before Steam became a thing, but have also wondered the same. I did point this thread out to Andrew, and he has dropped in some replies,

Hey! That is kind of you to ask. I joined Ambrosia in late 2002 as part of a 'sandwich degree' as we call it in the UK. I was doing a 4 year BSc in Computer Science, where the 3rd year was spent as a year in industry. For that I m

This was before my time at Ambrosia, but I did work the booth at a few shows in different cities (San Fran, LA, Paris being memories). Your story definitely sounds like the sort of thing that would go down. I also don't have any t-shir

I think it was a product of the era, because nowadays games are either big budget with huge teams, or they are indie games which will struggle to differentiate themselves from the crowd. Back then, there weren't the tools available for

I remember them changing the licensing system, it was shortly before I started at the company. Matt Slot, who was the lead coder alongside Andrew, wrote an article about it which I've managed to find archived [1]. The article doesn

Yeah, EV is still top 3 for me! As for the Windows release of Nova, I had the honour of packaging that up and releasing it. I still remember exactly where I was when I pressed the button! People on IRC were going wild! I was so fortunate to

Yes, I agree it would be a shame if these were lost. I do have some (unopened!) Ambrosia CDs with copies of the software. The activation stuff is beyond what I can offer, but I do speak to Andrew sometimes and will raise it with him. :)

Yes, I had a character in the game. I had an extremely over powered ship, and then if you managed to defeat me and board the ship you would find I only had a single credit. I was a beta tester for EV Nova before I joined as a staff member.

I also played many many hours of Maelstrom! That particular game is now open source [1]. On the whole, the main code of most games was not written by Ambrosia. There was a form on the website where you could submit a simple demo of a game i

I am very surprised nobody has yet mentioned Notational Velocity, or better yet the fork nvALT [1]. I hate any _friction_ to writing a note. I just want to get it out of my brain (or find it, if a previous thought) as quickly as possible. W

This makes sense. What makes less sense is why cache digests were abandoned and not finished? Surely that would have made Push useful?

Yeah, Zoom works very well, and is so much better for video calls than most of the alternatives. I do have sympathy for their team who were suddenly getting a wild amount more traffic, and scrutiny. They have scaled fast and kept the platfo

OP here. I tested much higher rates for short bursts, and wasn't ever rate limited, but didn't want to risk blowing anything up. However, with a few AWS instances / lambdas it would have been possible to do it in a few mins.

I think you have misunderstood what he is saying with that sentence. He is not speaking about "GA data", but is discussing the very precise issue of whether HTTP 3rd party cookies, set on cross-domain requests to google-analytics.

Original commenter here. They are not blocking GA. Apple's ITP affects both 3rd party HTTP cookies and 1st party JS cookies. There does not appear to be anything but a UI change between Safari 13.1 and 14, from my initial analysis. GA
