Other hosts exist. But Apple shouldn't be allowed to prevent sideloading which makes the app store no longer a monopoly.

wxWidgets is a poor platform abstraction that just results in the lowest common denominator of UI.

I maintain a small project and this works fine for me (though I do directly host executables). The bigger problem is crappy "anti-virus" software flagging it but those get resolved after a release is a few weeks old or so.

At this stage there are only 3-ish modern web engines (Those plus WebKit).

Google has always worked with GNOME to keep things working so its not hopeless for this specific situation.

To be exact Flatpak only requires that for exported data files. Since binaries are not exported they can be named anything.

Right the core problem is you have to use their binaries so Mozilla can't build it and ship their own.

I'm sure you don't care but interface names were redone to be stable, as in if you have two ethernet cards or you replace one with another you don't end up in a situation where `eth0` today is `eth1` tomorrow just because of

But they do? VSCode, Spotify, Chrome, etc are all custom repos just for their software.

But choosing a distro that doesn't update gives you other problems. Flatpak allows for a more hybrid approach where you get up to date software but a stable base. (Plus you can rollback software if those updates lead to problems)

Its not, its only different than Snap which is centralized. Their comment implied that Flatpak was too.

The solution is developer tools to conceptually split the target environment and their running environment. GNOME-Builder is an example of this.

Most complaints about the appstore revolve around things like it being slow, clunky, failing to work, being designed around DRM, forbidding win32 early on, etc. Nobody is complaining that applications are in a central location.

Canonical has a marketing team and outreach. Flatpak doesn't. Also the Snap store allows a larger range of software (WINE repackages, server apps, duplicates, etc) that Flathub does not. Flathub is also hand reviewed so it takes a bit

Flathub reviewer here. We do not security audit code of any project as thats just unreasonable. The user puts ultimate trust in the upstream projects we just ensure that the right upstream is used, libraries are up to date and sanely built,
