One gripe I have is that the result of map/filter is always an array. As a result, doing `foo.map(...).filter(...).slice(0, 3)` will run the map and the filter on the entire array even if it has hundreds of entries and I only need th

Well in JS you have to convert to arrays instead. You can't do `document.querySelectorAll(...).map(...)`.

Only 10% of people who use computers have a job with any professional requirements. All of those expert tools are faking their usage statistics and market share research.

Replace “Ubuntu” in your comment with “Windows” and “distro” with “operating system”. (Maybe also “your community” with “the world”.)

I disagree. I don't think LLMs use em-dashes any more than typical professional writing does. It only seems a lot to someone who only reads online chatrooms and social media.

The TikTok feed is an amalgamation of posts from lots of people who aren't collaborating. The Song of Ice and Fire is a single work by a single author (or so I assume). So it's more like you're reading a single humongous post

I use em dashes in my regular writing — mostly because I consider them good/correct typography — and now I have to contend with being accused of using LLMs or being a bot. I think this societal development is damaging.

I am dismayed by the implication that humans are now no longer able to use certain tropes or rhetorical devices or stylistic choices without immediately being discounted as LLMs and having their entire writing work discredited.

If you think that there are specific resources, you can just post them here. The fact that you didn't, and instead linked to a corporate walled garden, is very suspicious.

What I found most exciting while reading this article was the promise that you can “up and leave” and take your data with you without breaking links, because the links are based on a domain name you control. This is not so in ActivityPub. T

It's a cool idea but it kind of bothers me that with all this effort, you still only get a boolean worth of information (it was either accessed or not). No clue about who, when, where or why.

That is true, and I did think about that, but the current implementation is more than adequate for my years of playing Kyudosudoku, so I considered it not worth the implementation effort.

Now you missed my point as well. I didn't say it wasn't interesting, and I didn't say anything you said was wrong on a factual level. I said, “Your comment does not contribute to the discussion.” Interesting or not, it's

I do something like this in Kyudosudoku[0] to store the undo history in localStorage, but I took it a few steps further than this author as I was pursuing different goals: * I don't use bit or byte boundaries. If I need to store a fiel

Even if I were to make a document editor in SVG, I would still use the <text> element with a font, rather than positioning every character separately or even rendering every letter as a path. That would be incredibly wasteful I think.

There was a 60-hour-long power outage in parts of Berlin, Germany, just 5 days ago. However, to be fair, it only affected like a quarter of the city, and it was caused by an intentional attack (arson) rather than a malfunction.
