You cannot control physics though. What goes on in your brain is entirely just physics. We have a subjective impression of control, but that too is only the result of physics.

The reason I (and I assume other commenters, but I don't presume to speak on their behalf) don't care to dig up sources for you is because it's a waste of time. There are only two possibilities: either you're in denial,

The reason they won't tell you is because you've already presented yourself as someone who would deny the racist goals of a bill merely because it doesn't explicitly mention race. Differently put: everyone knows what these bi

Don't know about getting fired, but it's not hard to recall stories about people getting shunned by their relatives or expelled from their family for expressing such views.

Try to see it from the other side. The side where “contract liberty” is just a buzzword, and the real situation of real people in real life is horrendous and sickening. No amount of philosophical maneuvering is going to stop us criticizing

Outright dictatorships like North Korea are getting rarer. It's more common nowadays for de-facto dictatorships to maintain an appearance of democracy by actually holding elections but either having no viable candidates other than the

Love the idea. But there's a snag. If I search for my town, I get a lot of “likely not available (last seen years ago)”. If I click on “recent”, I get entries from all over the world. It seems to me that being able to filter by both wo

I was confused by the “form over function” comment. The author commended Apple’s “prioritizing form over function” but then criticized the function of competing items, indirectly lauding the function of Apple’s product.

I would, but I think the premise is unrealistic. The term “suffering” itself is pretty vague and undefined. You might be thinking of just removing pain receptors in the brain or something, but there are many more sources of suffering than j

I don't think they were claiming that it increases suffering. But it doesn't decrease it either. We should at least decrease suffering, or ideally, eliminate it. CRISPR does not constitute any progress in that regard. If anything,

What happened to us, as a society, that we cannot imagine eating without first exploiting other people? Maybe we should just let everyone eat and not expect them to first prove themselves worthy of not being left to starve.

My heuristic is to not be dogmatic like that. A constructor for a triangle class may reasonably want to take 6 arguments (3 x- and 3 y-coordinates). In other cases, even four arguments might be better as a config object if those 4 are all v
