What would be interesting to see would be merged vs. open vs. closed (as in rejected), and also the typical delay between the opening of the PR and the merging/closing. Some projects are fast to close PRs if they don't fit their goals, some

I often present it this way: - when you join a company as an engineer, the best case scenario is probably something like 1%. - a pretty good case scenario would be for a company to be bought in the $100M range. Say, $250M? You'll have cases

As mason55 said, a bonus will typically be reduced a lot when paid out (so that a $5k bonus ends up being more around $2.5k in your bank account), but in the end, when you do your tax return, you're taxed the same rate on your salary than o

I haven't been able to play with it too much yet, but I liked what I've seen. The interface is very clean and well done for a launch version. I typically like to do more and more things in a terminal rather than in a GUI or web interface, e

I believe that you can transfer them right away without losing any time on your lease. Meaning if you have 6 months before a domain expires and transfer it to a new registrar and pay for a year, you'll have a year and a half before it expir

I just wanted to add that the difference of 1000 hours come from time spent looking for and dealing with contracts and other overhead like that (as well as downtime), which you don't have as a salaried employee.

Pretty much: it's COPPA. The gist of COPPA is that you can't collect information about people under 13, without the express consent from a parent. So it's not completely against the law to have 13yo on a social network, it's just common for

It looks fine to me. You might be using some kind of browser extension like Ghostery that blocks some content related to tracking. Considering this is an analytics site, it's not surprising that would be the case. (as a matter of fact, I ha

I installed Mixel for its collage capabilities but I was turned off by its social network aspect. Sadly, I've noticed that it's the case for a lot of apps in this space (e.g. Instagram of course, Cinemagram, Viddy, SocialCam, etc.): instead

Yeah, the video player ended up being a so-so example. :) The point is that it's common to have UI elements that can go one way or the other and it's often possible to justify either way. As far as why there's a lot of experimentation, I th

A few years ago, I worked on a video player and looked around a lot to figure out if designers tended to go for "show action that will happen when clicked" (e.g. video is playing, so display the "pause" icon) or "current state" (e.g. video

Pretty cool. I like the thinly-veiled SEO work in the "See also" section. Smart :) On a show's page, I'm confused by the "Featured series" button that leads to the homepage as seen here: http://whenepisode.com/coming/t/breaking+bad Since

The thing as always is how you define failure and success. Do all the founders of a startup that is considered a success make $10M? Of course not. In my opinion, that's where the "it's a lot less than 1%" might come from.

I think it's something like the average of the last 50 to last 5 comments you've made. Maybe with some outliers removed as well. The main point is that it's not instant (i.e. your last comments are not taken into account) and it uses only r
