If we focus on compute, the cores in the A14/M1 are excellent still, even in terms of efficiency. Mine holds up excellently. The iPhone 12’s 4GB RAM (6 on Pro) is its bottleneck. The reason nearly no one wants the iPhone 12 is due to m

Nobara is a nice flavor of Fedora optimized especially for desktop and gaming. I’ve started recommending it to others, while personally I’m happier with Arch’s more transparent and simplified architecture and development, plus rolling relea

No. Decoding is a job mostly done by specialized hardware - the shader units are used sometimes, before a fully fixed function implementation is ready. Encoding in particular doesn’t map well to GPUs. They can do it, using varying degrees o

Apologies, I did miss that. However it seems to still underperform. See this thread, screenshots on the first page. http://forum.doom9.net/showthread.php?p=1947856#post1947856 I was remembering from this a couple years ago,

It also benefits from the extremely optimized encoder x264, which has many easily approachable tunings and speed/compression presets. I’m not sure I’d trust x265 to preserve film grain better than x264 —tune film unless I gave x265 muc

Now I need to buy three dongles, one for my car, one for home, and one for my go-bag, and do a silly scramble when I misplace the tiny. Plus buy USB-C replacements now that Lightning is dead. The dongle is also ugly (doesn’t match my phone

See excellent article. The 3A6000 is Loongson’s best and newest and performs between the level of Zen (GloFo 14-12nm) and Zen 2 (TSMC 7nm) but limited to four cores. A lot depends on the cost to produce that chip, whether Loongson can scale
