I know a person who got published in high school. They did so by working closely with multiple professors on various projects. You don't have to do a PhD to do this especially if you're a talented and motivated youngster.

Some quality journals and conferences have double blind reviews now. So the work is reviewed without knowing who the work belongs to. It's not so much the politics of the system as the skills required to write a research paper being ha

Research is far better than a random claim making machine even if some of it has errors that have caused the replication crisis. It's easy to overstate the level of the problem even though it's fairly severe at this point. "W

Overproducing PhDs seems to be a necessary aspect of how research is conducted in the current university. Most serious lines of work are pursued by a PhD student or Postdoc and advised by a Professor. They need a critical mass of PhD studen

Smart isn't the biggest criteria for success as a professor. The PhD degree is a good filter because it trains and tests research aptitude, work ethic, ability to collaborate, ability to focus on a single problem for a long period of t

I'm not so sure it's a VC-scale business. Maybe if it's useful for weightlifting and other vertical markets. That being said I wouldn't be quick to write it off as a failure. Most of the climbers in the thread are chimin

This is very dangerous advice. In particular at the price point the OP is selling they need marketing not sales and need to know the difference before hiring. They need to do at least enough of this themselves to be able to hire well when

That’s not how math works. 10x improvements don’t necessary capture 10x revenue. And 100 experiments don’t necessarily cost 1x revenue each.

A very smart professor of mine once thought "They added pictures to hypertext, that's sort of cool I guess." Looking backwards definitely biases you to seeing things you didn't see at the time. Even memories get tinged.

I don't think most crazy ideas crashing and burning is good enough to disprove the thesis. Even if 1 in 100 ideas that can bring about 10x change in important areas are all that succeed, we need those ideas to improve things. I think
