Yeah even with a large C++ codebase, any decent IDE will flag errors very quickly in real time. I dunno, I've never found that waiting a minute to run a test or whatever is particularly detrimental to my workflow. I understand the bene

The only thing you can genuinely tell for sure from superficial qualities is if it was cured properly, and that nothing is horribly wrong. Otherwise it's correlation vs causation. You can grow and harvest mediocre weed with a lot of ca

After seeing a few mainstream news headlines that were like "Apple adds ChatGPT" as the entire WWDC takeaway, I wonder if this was actually a mistake. It's such a trivial feature, a footnote after plenty of really interesting

It's literally the prompt you just gave it, that's what they're sending to ChatGPT, nothing else. None of the features that sift through your data are touching OpenAI.

Yeah and that was a far more realistic fear, because talented Indian developers actually exist and aren't just a hypothetical future that requires a series of incredible technological breakthroughs.

I feel like this is an awful feature for your native language, but fantastically exciting for a second language where you're not quite fluent and need to be able to write coherently.

As far as I'm aware, the only time Apple has implemented that kind of restriction is with their DMA compliance. Like, I used the US App Store (with a US credit card) while physically in Europe for many years.

We're really just describing an on-device search tool with a much better interface. It's only creepy if you treat it like a person, which Apple is pretty careful not to do too much.

The DMA repeatedly requires gatekeepers to act in a "fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory" manner. The "spirit" is very much baked into the language.

I have no idea if this applies to the OP, but I see a ton of people in game development communities who just jump in with minimal programming experience and try to muddle their way through by watching tutorial videos and stuff. It's pa

I haven't done web development since the late 90s, so quite a lot of what people talk about (from frontend frameworks to Kubernetes) is total gibberish to me. That's fine, it's not something I'm interested in even as a h

Interesting example of the kind of thing it's probably not worth caring about in software emulation. Emulating the bug would be considerably slower. Some day replicating the PS2 on an FPGA will be feasible, and then figuring out how th

I see a lot of cool little use cases (eg, LLMs are genuinely fantastic for creative brainstorming), but I'm absolutely not seeing the multi-trillion dollar AI industry that all the big companies are clearly banking on.

The Mac app scene especially is pretty small and tight-knit. Lots of indie developers have been around for decades and know each other well. That makes it even more jarring for an app to get acquired by a totally unknown company.

Specifically, I think the original code will always do what you expect as long as sizeof(long) == sizeof(float), and the alignment is the same. In reality no compiler is gonna do weird stuff unless your hardware target is weird.
