Just to underline that, Microsoft has been using "x64" for about 20 years; the architecture was supported on Windows XP and Server 2003. It's probably the clearest term to use when you're talking specifically about Windo

Same experience: if you're trying to do something unusual (an obscure library, or a task that has minimal documentation and few usage examples in the wild), the results are usually bad, and it will very frequently try to call functions

It fits very comfortably into the category of "time management" game, which was a fairly popular casual genre 10-15 years ago. Cook Serve Delicious is probably the one notable example which is still going strong. Definitely distin

Londo's arc by itself is remarkable, walking a tightrope between comic relief and villain and sympathetic protagonist. And it all works , it's never trite or forced. He's a great character because he's all those things

The only real complaint I have about Firefox on macOS is that fullscreening a video takes forever. Safari does it twice as fast and with a smooth animation instead of blanking the screen. Otherwise I find the experience on Windows and Mac v

Game console emulators are surprisingly popular on Android. Even with a bluetooth controller, it seems like a terrible experience with a tiny screen that's even tinier if you're playing retro games with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Google is fine if you're searching for restaurants or a Wikipedia article. I'm sure they handle the vast majority of their mundane queries well. It's awful, much worse than it used to be, if you're looking for some speci

I think tests like "can this LLM pass an English literature exam it's never seen before" are probably useful, but yeah there's a lot of silly stuff like math tests. I suppose the question is where are they most commercia

I think maybe this was changed quite recently, but for a long time Windows 10/11 would send you periodic notifications that Defender had done a scan and found no threats. Pointless and briefly alarming; I do not expect to get AV notifi

Arch is unusual in that it's x86-64 only, so going from 1 to 2 is probably a lot harder than other distros just adding the nth new architecture.

I agree that you should always be ready and happy to discard or refactor code as needed. Requirements change, your assumptions may be wrong. But in practice I've more often seen the opposite problem, where organizations end up stuck on

It is remarkable how easy they've made it to cleanly pirate Windows recently. You don't even need to run your own KMS thing, there are several public servers, and you just type in three terminal commands. Totally different from th

Yeah the "insane pilot error" crashes always get me. American 587 is another example where, in response to normal wake turbulence, the pilot mashed the rudder back and forth so hard it broke the stabilizer.

An equivalent generic sort function in C would, at best, require a bunch of additional distracting cruft. This is exactly what C++ templates are for.

C++/CLI really just exists for creating .NET bindings to C++ libraries, right? If you've got a C interface, LibraryImport in C# is sophisticated enough to get the job done on its own.

I buy paper books when I have to, but e-readers are fantastic. No reason to avoid them for the vast majority of novels which don't have weird formatting or tons of footnotes.
