My sense is that there should just be a blanket ban on forced arbitration clauses. If a dispute arises between two companies, they can still agree to handle it through arbitration, but the right to sue should always exist until it is waived

The lack of default/named function arguments is what still gets me. It's such an absolute basic programmer ergonomics feature shared by most popular languages; even C++ has had defaults since forever.

I suppose if you have the OS and web browser running natively on ARM, it's tolerable to run non-CPU-intensive software through a translation layer. And yeah it's pretty good, I was able to run some creaky old VB6 program on Window

There's a segment of generative AI proponents who, on a fundamental level, genuinely do not understand art. All art is communication, and without humanity it is meaningless. LLMs are really cool for creative brainstorming and stuff lik

You could literally write the same comment, word for word, about the film industry, but for some reason the disdain on HN is reserved only for videogames. It's not the 80s anymore, so it's really weird to be treating games as an e

If you're making a Larry game that's tame enough to be allowed on mobile/console stores, why even bother at that point.

Aqua (in early versions of OS X) did a fantastic job of combining all this clear usability with a lot of fun visual flair. Even the old Qt/GTK themes which emulated that look were pretty good. It really is incredible how flat and borin

Yeah just gotta accept that your body gradually deteriorates. I know some people have really bad tinnitus, and that's different, but typical mild tinnitus is almost completely ignoreable after a while.

APF is great, but I wish there was a full Annotated Discworld published, like you get with many classic books. There are dozens of little references in each book which aren't documented on this site, not to mention the more recent book

I've had great experiences contributing small bug fixes like this to various large-ish projects. In any organization that has a process for reviewing GitHub PRs, there should be minimal friction. If you want to add a new feature with h

AMD is probably best positioned to make a laptop/desktop SoC with the same kind of unified memory. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Intel's little experiment in budget dedicated GPUs is also a byproduct of similar R&D. L

The extra funding alone is fantastic for Godot. The next year is going to be really exciting, with console support via W4 Games, ironing out some rough edges and missing pieces in C# support, renderer improvements, etc. It's already a

Godot is already a great, viable option for many games, and it's only getting better with each point release. Official (paid) console ports are coming in the near future. An asset store is coming, probably next year. It's not a dr

Amen. I did great in school, except I hated homework from a very early age onwards. Tedious crap I already understood. The occasional take-home project is probably fine, but otherwise let school be school, and leave it at that.

As in every other online service market, that's a really hard sell if your competitors (eg, Bard) remain free. I think giant companies won't mind burning cash for at least a few years while they figure this stuff out.

My XS is still at 87% battery capacity, which is noticeable but totally fine. That's the one thing I'm worried about with upgrading; I've seen multiple reports of newer iPhones dropping below 90% within a year or so.
