I grew up near Portage Lakes in NE Ohio. For much of my childhood, the water was a little murky, the seaweed wasn't too thick, and the lakes were pretty harmless (and fun) to swim in. Sometime around 2001, zebra mussels were accidenta

I worked at Vanguard for about 5 years and Mr. Bogle was omnipresent on campus, working in his research area and dining (almost) every day in the on-campus cafeteria. In my few interactions with him, he was always nice and gentle. I only ev

No, you are allowed. You just aren't allowed to online. Many states now allow sports gambling, with many more on the way.

I remember a similar discussion on here about hedge funds. The goals of the ultra-rich investors are often very different than average people. In a 401k investment account we try to find the best ways to get a return on investment and incr

This is really helpful, thank you. I've been diving into heavy doses of JavaScript lately -- I'll continue with that and augment it with TypeScript and React too.

I was wondering if you could give me a little advice as to what I should focus on to more specialize in the Microsoft stack? I'm on a bit of an unusual track into software engineering, having started in finance and first teaching mysel

Sorry, but I'm not understanding your point. Index funds are almost no trouble at all. People harping on index funds typically suggest something akin to 'invest in an S&P 500 index fund and let it sit for 35 years.' So

No problem, happy to have helped. I had a question for you too. You said you used this side project as an opportunity to learn React. I've been considering learning React and was wondering what tools/resources you used to get up

Just a heads up, I think there's an error in the description next to the graph estimating work time. I'm seeing this message: >>> Total is expected to be about 22.3 days. >>> * likely to be greater than 15 days

I don't have an answer, but I have trouble picturing a better option that's both egalitarian and actually gives the best search results. The closest thing I can think of almost feels regressive -- sites like HackerNews and Reddit.

Health insurance in the US varies wildly. I pay less than $20 per paycheck for my insurance and my health expenses are capped by plan on an annual basis. I may spend little to none one year and a thousand dollars the next. It all depends

I'd say most modern societies have agreed, but culturally and through years of legislation, that there are unique laws and rules for humans that we don't apply to other animals. So no.

This is such an interesting response to me as it's a little different than a lot of the other ones. Why do you say you "should have had kids"? It's interesting to me because many I speak to wish they had waited longer.

I am a big fan of Cleveland, but it isn't a "skyscraper city." There are a number of mid-sized buildings and really nice downtown, but it hasn't grown vertically like some other cities.
