Using express directly is very common. Express is basically the Sinatra of Node.js. Because it's somewhat lower-level, it doesn't have a lot of limitations, as the module is really small. It only gives you a routing system, view s

I believe one of the reasons why there haven't been any for JavaScript or Node.js is because nothing is standardized, apart from possibly express and connect. Authentication and authorization is yet to be standardized. This is the big

Does anybody know why they got sued? I'm curious as to why they'd get sued for Etags but not cookies. Did they just not have any opt-out measure?

Yes, 100% agree. This is one of the biggest issues right now. Too many people are raising too much money without focusing on revenue or profitability.

I have the newer Macbook Pro 13" (retina & solid state) which is substantially lighter and more portable than previous Macbook Pros. While I typically work at the same area most of the time, it being light weight is definitely a bo

From my experience and from many successful technical founders, or co-founders, you're either not qualified or just qualified for it. Even if you're advanced in specific areas of programming/computing, being a technical co-fo

I'd avoid 37signals. While they have bootstrapped, they haven't grown very fast, at all. 10M in 2 years is really fast, so they'd need someone who could deal with that kind of quick scale.

No. Web pages are sandboxed and thus have limited control to the computer and operating system compared to native apps.

Also, I find the Google Closure library to be way too heavy for a transpiled language. It adds it's own library tools and separates itself from traditional JavaScript paradigms. Letting the transpiled language to do just that and doesn't im

PHP as just started to get a package community going (Composer) but it's incredibly slow. Using external packages in PHP isn't as easy as with other platforms.

You attribute high availability to the infrastructure entirely, not just a front facing programming language. Facebook has a massive architecture and only it's front-end stuff (views, data retrieval) are done in PHP. Everything else are sep

JavaScript has a mixed praise. Some people hate it but still use it because it's the only option, while other people love it to death. I think once people know how to use JavaScript appropriately and uses it's strengths then it's a much bet

Maybe. But the fact is PHP as a language is messy, albeit some frameworks have made it better (i.e Laravel). I'm assessing Wordpress because of it's praise by many people when it's not well built (have you looked at the codebase?). Just loo

PHP has just mixed and matched a ton of different features from other languages without having consistency. For example, many of the core functions have different naming conventions and many of it's OOP features are after thoughts.

Wordpress is garbage. Just because there are a lot of production sites built or using Wordpress doesn't mean it's good. Wordpress is popular because of it's community, use of PHP which allows you to host it on many providers, and a ton of t

You can't do much with just HTML. Remember, HTML5 is basically just a wrapper around all the new web technologies (local storage, webgl, audio API, web sockets, etc...). Most of these technologies are interfaced with JavaScript and not HTML
