Not necessarily. It depends on why the offspring couldn't crawl or walk for longer. If it's associated with something that increases survival in mature members of the species, it might be tolerated, even selected for. For example,

I'm curious what you consider the specific attributes that are required to turn "cooking for your friends and family" into "hosting a dinner party." IMO, they're both variations on communal in-home dining, but

I suppose it depends on the definition of dinner party. (I only skimmed TFA, so apologies if you're addressing something specific in the article.) IMO, a dinner party doesn't have to be some stuffy affair. It's just a group o

Yeah, I think that's true for a lot of people. The other aspect of this is that your enjoyment/appreciation of a book can greatly depend on what's going on in your life at the moment. So, it's not just if a book is good

I have a couple of SQL habits along these lines that I haven't seen others do. If I'm typing an ad-hoc DELETE or UPDATE statement, I'll slap the WHERE keyword on the end of the main command line. For example: UPDATE items

I'd like to know more about "damless hydro". I keep hearing about water turbines used in conjunction with tidal currents or offshore wavepower. Some of the numbers they throw around seem promising, e.g., $0.055/kWh, whic

Exactly. Or remap it to any key combination that makes sense for your work, if you like using Capslock for its original purpose, which I happen to. For example, I have jj and jk mapped to ESC. So I just tap j twice while in insert mod

Yeah, I think a parent's responsibility is to expose your kid to things they might like or find fulfilling, but it's up to the young individual to pursue it. The tricky part is that sometimes you have to push a bit to expose them

Yeah, it depends on the type of mental illness, I think. Addiction is obviously harder without easy access to the chemical/activity. But even for something like depression, many of the behaviors that are known to help would be more pre

I always smile when I see that phrase, "pull yourself up by the bootstraps," because the phrase originally meant "do something impossible," back in the 1700s. As in, this thing you're trying to do is as easy/di

FYI, according to the Census Bureau, as of 2014, for Americans aged 25 or older: 31.96% have a bachelor degree, 41.89% have at least an associate degree, 58.57% have attended some college. That said, I'd bet your 25%/10% guesses

You are describing an aspect of Impostor Syndrome. It's super common among programmers – and IMO, all people who have a modicum of self-awareness. Just search around, you'll see that feeling overwhelmed puts you in great company.

Slight tangent, but I'll just comment that the business world runs on generally bad software – if they even have "software" and don't just use insanely complex spreadsheets. It's one of those surprising things I

Gotcha. I don't agree 100% with this clarified position (I think), but it seems like a rational position that we could debate. Not here of course. :) But you know, over drinks or whatevs. Anyway, the point is that it's a much less

Yeah, that's fair. I'd agree green-field product development is different from maintenance. It requires great UX thinking, really understanding the users, product-market fit, maybe some behavioral economics, etc. I was thinking

So, I think I agree with you, in general, that people can be better suited to green-field or maintenance, both from a skillset and personality perspective. But I also think good, active maintenance can have a lot of creativity and require,

Just FYI, a handful of states have 19 or 21 as the age to buy tobacco, and while I think you're right about the age to gamble being 18 in most states, most casinos require you to be 21 – at least from my anecdotal experience. This does

Random question here. How long does it take you to walk 10k steps? I've fallen out of the habit lately, but I was hitting the 10k target for a while. I have a sedentary desk job. So chores and playing with my kid got me up to about 3k.

I'm curious where you saw that figure of 5 days. Everything I've seen is 7-8 nights, e.g., depart 9/9 and arrive 9/16. That doesn't substantively change your point; I was just surprised to see 5 days.
