Oh I totally agree. I'm doing this very thing: SF salary, live in Western MI. But that's really only available for a small subset of the population.

There's very few places where there is an overlap of "jobs that pay $100k" and "homes that can be afforded at $100k salary".

My total comp is ~250k, in DevOps. My HQ is in a tech hub, but I work remotely from the Midwest. They are out there, you just have to find them. Truly talented DevOps engineers have a niche mix of skills, and are in high enough demand they

Yea. Also affordable housing on that salary means you will not be living near anything desirable. Essentially means country living and car ownership... not the cheapest thing in Michigan.

An interesting take on the other side of this issue. There exists a crucial distinction between supporting "war" and supporting "service members". That being said, it feels like the author is ignoring non-trivial aspect

How do you reconcile that when it's very likely allowing even a small population of "owners" to install unverified software ends up directly harming the majority of the other "owners".

I think, inevitably, the saying about work not being a good forum for discussing: - religion - politics - sex still holds true, regardless of how progressive the workplace.

I still vastly prefer the flexibility, cost-advantages, and productivity gains from remote work. That being said, you have to invest in it. Have a separate room with a door. Spend some money on good ergonomics. Have a good, stable interne

If read/listen to MA or BH at any length, they heavily emphasize the value of relationships and a network. This behavior seems absolutely anathema to their stated ideals.
