Oh wow. It's actually plus-shaped. I've been looking for a PC controller with a plus-shaped D-pad for a while. They've been rare for a few years, due to Nintendo's patent on plus-shaped D-pads, but that expired in 2005.

I would be unsurprised if it was for legacy reasons. Both of those programming languages were written over twenty years ago. Furthermore, arrays play nicely with C extensions.

Add a salt. It doesn't even have to be that large because of the unlikelihood. Alternately, adding IP address as a hashed parameter should distinguish them well.
