The TOR Browser Bundle is a great example of what can be done. I think it's actually pretty effective, especially with the more paranoid modes. It doesn't provide font lists, doesn't run JS, doesn't expose WebGL, picks o

What are these competitors? From what I can tell, there aren't any viable "reddit clones" that it's competing with. Rather, it's the more controlled social media (Facebook/Tumblr/etc, profitable at this po

WebRTC's protocols are actually standardized at the IETF in the RTCWEB working group, by a large number of people. The W3C is in charge of the Javascript API (which is actually what people are complaining about here), again with a lot

When I visit the NYT, it gets a full IPv6 address, non-NAT. Isn't this just as bad? Should we tell everyone to turn off IPv6 support?

Don't forget Flash, the #1 tool for persistent tracking. Uninstalling Flash should be your first priority if you care about this.

I agree with a lot of this, but not turning off WebRTC in general. Certainly you should turn it off (or force TURN only) if you're trying to hide your IP behind a VPN. But IPv6 already causes you to lose the same amount of privacy as e

Firefox can actually use ffmpeg as a decoder. It would be a great option for supporting a lot of these formats. However, Mozilla can't ship it enabled, because the patent problem is very real. See, for example, all of the Play Store ap

Shumway actually works pretty well on a lot of the old avm1/2 animations. Few run perfectly, but it shows that it is a practical way forward.

Wow, that's a ridiculously defeatist attitude. Comparing reverse engineering a FPGA to landing on the moon? First of all, it's a relatively new field for open source. The icestorm project only got a complete synthesis to bitstream

I wouldn't say Shumway has failed, it's still an active and new project. I can pretty much use any "traditional" vector animated flashes on them. Video is still a problem due to codec patent issues, which is a bit sad be

The Chrome sandbox isn't as strong as you might think. Flash needs access to a ton of stuff to work: - Camera / Microphone - Filesystem - GPU So there's plenty you can do without escaping the sandbox.
