Tremor, the fixed-point decoder of Ogg Vorbis, came out in 2002. According to the Rockbox performance data, it requires about the same clock speed as AAC-LC. iPods and similar generally don't have fixed-function audio decoders. http:&

The author of Ogg wrote a reply to that article: https://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/lj-pseudocut/o-response-1.... Anyway, I highly doubt the design of the Ogg container had anything to do with the popularity of Vor

You forgot to build ffmpeg with --enable-libopus. ffmpeg has its own reimplemented decoder, but relies on libopus for encoding.

The overlap between GIMP and Krita is quite large. In general, at this point Krita is mostly a superset of the GIMP - though I still use GIMP a lot due to familiarity. Also, Krita is a must for >8bit images at the moment.

Firefox currently ships VP8 and VP9. It includes H.264 support not for concerns about it being "guaranteed free", but for web compatibility.

Downstream projects of FFmpeg such as VLC certainly have been affected [1]. The interesting thing is that most of the problems have been with audio formats - this is the first I've seen for an open source project using H.264. The Wikip

You can already do digital audio on Android, either over OTG USB and normal USB Audio, or via the Android Accessory protocol. Presumably this would work just as well over a USB C connector. Adding DRM is a pure downgrade from this.
