Yes, the original client (Bitcoin Core) and some others enforce it, while others (Electrum) only rely on the proof-of-work, which of course is more risky, but acceptable for some users. You need to follow the chain back from the very first

My system libjpeg on Fedora has it, but most browsers ship without it. Given that from a compatibility point of view it's almost as bad as switching to a new format entirely, I doubt it will be embraced.

I actually think the insulation is adequate for a line voltage motor. You can also see that the brush holders were heavily modified (and kinda ugly) in the Juicero motor compared to the spec sheet [1], likely due to the higher voltage. Thou

I suspect the majority of the power is already burned in the gears. Two teslas is 40000 newtons. If we assume the press moves 5cm in 2.5 minutes: 40000 * (0.05/150) = 13 watts.

The two strangest parts of this are probably the door locking mechanism and the DC motor supply. The door locking was pretty well explained, but I was really surprised at the DC motor. From previous pictures I had assumed it was a 170VDC mo

MIPS is the other large big-endian case that's still in wide use (especially in home routers), however the machines are even more painfully slow to test on.

The effect would have to be stronger than the differences in luminous efficacy to work, which is about 10% between 3000K and 4000K. This is a great theory, but you provide no supporting evidence. The "bogus" metrics you complain a

Yeah, my first thought was "this board looks great for testing big-endian". Would be nice to see comparisons to e.g. the G5.

The conflict resolution problem was traditionally solved just by taking the first seen valid transaction and disregarding any subsequent conflicting transactions. That of course is not necessarily profit maximizing, so current implementatio

Both Firefox and mpv use the same decoder for Youtube (ffvp9). With accelerated layers forced on and fullscreen, you should see roughly comparable performance. For windowed, it's currently expected to be somewhat more taxing than mpv b

Yes, you ideally want four, as that seems to be the maximum number that the chips support. I believe the zynq is still capable of that.

lukejr is nowhere near the "lead bitcoin developer". Wladimir van der Laan is the Bitcoin Core maintainer, not lukejr. lukejr even maintains his own fork (Bitcoin Knots) for stuff that didn't make it into Core.

Certain miners implementing ASICBOOST in their ASIC also have a FPGA with DRAM that could be used to find the 4 byte collisions extremely quickly. The calculation can be used for the hundreds of ASICs attached to the FPGA board. It's a

And note that both the overt and covert methods of ASICBOOST work on normal blocks, though they make block generation harder and so likely increase the number of empty blocks seen.

Not only that, Bitmain (the miner implied to be using ASICBOOST covertly) copied the American patent and submitted it to the Chinese patent system. It's not yet granted, though.

One minor niggle: Segwit does increase block size, up to a 4MB maximum (though it's expected that most blocks will be about 2.1MB).

Software patents also exist in most of the EU and Asia as well, unfortunately. Check out one of the MPEG-LA license portfolios and look at the countries represented if you want your day ruined.

AC-3 does not offer lossless mode, only the extension TrueHD, which is still covered by patents. As mentioned in the article, AC-3 is pretty horrific by modern standards. Use Opus or FLAC instead.

DVDs in Europe are required to have a non-AC3 audio stream, but not AAC - MPEG-1 layer 2 is one of the options. AAC, while not controlled by a single company, still has its problems. AAC has had tons of stuff hacked on to it over time (I co

There is no block to block prediction other than DC prediction, so is this effect due to your distortion function spanning multiple blocks? Same for cross YUV channels, because your metric is in RGB space? edit: second read-through I found
