Given how unpopular these cameras are, and how sloppy their security has been, I have come to assume there's boatloads of bribery happening. I can't come up with any other explanation for how willing police chiefs and city council

Seems like it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission. And, I wouldn't bet on this legislature ever doing anything that would disempower fossil energy or reduce their profits, even a little bit.

Yeah, I guess, but it feels like there isn't really an opportunity for anyone to do that, given how competitive the market is. If Anthropic decides to demand API rates for everything (which would make my $100/month turn into a few

"Isn’t governmental control over funding what we hate about Microsoft?" No. And, I'm confused why you'd think that's the problem "we" have with Microsoft or any other monopolist.

Yes, it is software that was not ready for an influx of Twitter refugees when the time came. "Mastodon" is also the biggest Mastodon instance, where new people would first land when seeking Twitter alternatives, which was also not

I honestly don't understand the concerns about this particular "jailbreak". So they used an AI model to have bad cybersex. Sure, it's pathetic and weird, but what's with all the fear mongering? What harm are we supp

I wish Mastodon had been ready for an influx of Twitter refugees when the time came. And, I wish the average person was ready for decentralized services like the fediverse. But, most of the Twitter folks I followed went to Bsky, so I have a

As I understand it, Bsky doesn't punish posts for including a link off-site, and doesn't require you to be logged in to view it. Whether they'll continue to behave in a responsible way forever remains to be seen, I guess.

Given how untrustworthy the most popular social media providers have proven to be, it's madness that so many politicians and government accounts still use things like Xitter or facebook as their primary communication medium. Even ignor

The Qwen and Z.ai coding plans include API access, last I checked. OpenCode Go also has API access to a bunch of models for $10/month.

No, I mean, every human who spends enough time working with computers eventually makes a dumb blunder, very often this specific one (using `rm -rf` in a way that has further reaching effects than intended). But, I do want to use models that

Yes, if I was going to throw away ten grand on a computer that can run models that are much worse than what I can rent from a variety of providers for a few bucks a month, I'd buy the Apple.

What model? Also, I don't know what "the PrismaAQUA" means, ddg thinks it's a CPAP machine, which seems unlikely to help with inference performance. Also, 4-bit has measurable intelligence loss. Sometimes worth it, but,

I don't believe the extremism engine of Xitter is reducing the risk of global catastrophe. I think it's accelerating that risk. Certainly it helped elect Trump, and no one can argue that's been good for advancing the cause of

I found a couple of different 4-bit quantizations of Laguna S 2.1 that run pretty well with pretty big context (also quantized, to 8 bits, I think). Unfortunately, Laguna isn't better than Qwen 3.8 27B, which I'm able to run at ro

No. In Linux, you can ignore the BIOS (well, set it to 512MB) and set GTT to allow almost the entirety of memory for GPU. If you don't run a desktop GUI (and why would you), you don't need memory for much of anything else. Just a

The Strix Halo and DGX Spark are pretty danged slow, relatively speaking. I don't recall exact numbers, but with MoE models in this size ballpark (Laguna S 2.1), I seem to recall I was seeing about 20-25 t/s with a big context, wh

I can do traditional server stuff on any old computer with a big hard disk and a decent amount of RAM. That's not worth $3500-$4000. When RAMpocalypse is over and we can buy a Strix Halo for under $2000 again, the math starts mathing.

That's in the same ballpark as two 128GB AI machines like the Asus GX10 or DGX Spark or Strix Halo. And, it seems very likely to perform better than either of those for inference. And, 256GB brings some pretty good models into play. Bu
