All this talk of bubble misses the fact that there is real growth happening in the technology sector. The growth is a combination of many factors, by mostly it seems, the following: * redistribution of services from a small office, small

Despite the 300LOC stuff, it's still a really inspiring story. You started with a hack, learned a bunch, wrote some code in two weeks, and sold it for, what sounds like, just over the non-trivial threshold. Good job :-)

Sorry, this is very snarky, but seriously (over)paraphrasing: ``We didn't really have anything to sell until "we rewrote everything [and] made it configurable". Would you say you could have sold without a rewrite? Did you try and sell befor

Nokia were clearly the leader 10 years ago. Whilst at the front of the race they took their eye off for a little distraction called Symbian. The problem there was the complete lack of control over the UI. Symbian forked their UI for phone a

Having just scanned the rest of this thread. My future plans: * max out the company pension scheme in terms of contributions. * continue to max out the UK tax free savings & investment schemes. It's only £10k ish a year but it starts ad

Your best option is satellite. If the base station is in another country, and the satellite covers your geography, it's just a case of smuggling in the hardware, or if it's legal hardware, setting up the account and getting the card thingy.

Thanks, means I didn't have to dig it out. It really makes me wonder about investing my savings into my tracker fund when I saw that. I'm in the UK, and my guess is, due to very tight correlation between the markets we did the same sort of

I don't know how many customers Facebook has. Do you? It's certainly less than the 30 million customers AOL had. (Customer defined as someone who pays for service). Facebook has it's place for the people who like safe, controlled and easy.

If you're experience really is as you suggest and you are an EJB/JMS/Spring/RDBMS/transactions/JAAS guru, then yes, that is low-ball, and I'd have expected you to be getting double that!!! Caveat: I'm not NY based, but I have worked out of

I know that situation well. I figured out it's because I strongly prefer working in a team. Solo-founder is never going to work 100% for me. I do work individually great, but if there isn't at least one smart person to bounce ideas off, and

I found it quite surprising that Jim doesn't get CVs where people rank their skills. My first proper CV had that on, and my CV does to this day. Pretty basic stuff. That said I reviewed a friend's CV two weeks ago. He was lucky it was over
