That's not "American". The house number comes first in the US, e.g. > 10 Main Street Apt# 150 Which frankly just looks weird. At least the Scandinavian standard has them in a sensible order. In Denmark it could be: >

I am only speculating, but I think in Europe at least, there is a tendency to avoid railway crossings with rails that run parallel to another road. And if that cannot be avoided, the trains are required to run very slowly along those track

I've only seen those kinds of gates in Europe. Mind, I have not seen all US railway crossings, but I have seen a few, and none of them had gates like that. Plus, I think there is too little money in the railway network's budget

Some of it is people driving down the railway track. It may be confusing at night (all the incidents I could find mentioned in the bottom happened at night), particularly if there is a road junction immediately following the railway crossi

I am genuinely curious, why aren't there transmissions for electric engines? Surely the advantage would be the same as for an IC engine. I remember hearing that Tesla tried to build a 2 speed transmission for their Roadster back in t

In Danish, we say Volapük (well volapyk in Danish). So nice of us to give an artificial language some exposure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volap%C3%BCk

I totally recognise this. In this example, and the comment below, you measure in unit of nutrition (which I agree is the important factor), but no one has disputed that a human diet from plants compared to meat would not require more usage

Are you saying livestock does not live on a diet less varied than humans? As I understand it, they aren't as picky about food as humans are.

But doesn't a vegetarian diet require more hectares than a meat based one? Livestock farming will emit more emissions per hectare, but I don't think we have enough hectares of arable land to feed 7.7 billion people with vegetaria

While lower fares, which would necessitate subsidies for the Danish railways, are definitely needed, the railway infrastructure in Denmark does need an overhaul. It was the wrong decision not to electrify the tracks back in the 1990s, this

The success of the IC3 from the 1980s lead politicians in the 1990s to decide not to electrify the tracks, but instead count on diesel, and so the IC4 project was initiated. It was a bad decision then, particularly because the IC4 project

Denmark itself is a pretty valuable strategic asset. What with controlling the seaways into the Baltic. If Greenland is valuable, then Denmark would likely be guaranteed to own it. In the same way, that Denmark has remained independent.

It does make me wonder what it would have been like if Denmark had not sold the US Virgin Islands. Although, I feel the islands might be doing better today than they are now.

I think a more appropriate translation would be 'friend for one', as it can be read as an offer. »Ven til en« is obviously an unusual way of phrasing it, but replace »ven« with any commodity you can purchase, then it sounds more

The advantage of a welfare state to me, personally, is predictability. If I were to get into an accident, break some bones and not be able to work for a few months, I would not be charge a large hospital bill. Nor would I lose my salary.

Doesn't it also have something to do with the fact that the US has so much more land compared to the amount of people who live there (population density) in comparison to Europe? Basically, we don't have a lot of land in Europe.

Thanks for the quick change. That's definitely better. Unfortunately, most European countries aren't federal states, and so dividing them by "state" (more like region, county, department or province) makes little sense.
