Not the fediverse, but I'm working on moving Gurlic's backend to matrix and opening up the code. Which means people should be able to host their own matrix server and run a Gurlic instance. Still a heavy WIP though. I don't s

One important reason is the "cool" factor. Anything that's associated with the government is uncool by default. Not to mention everything else - privacy, state surveillance, network effects. If there's free choice, I don

I'm in the middle of tweaking Gurlic to use Matrix(Dendrite) as a backend. It's a ton of work unfortunately, with the limited time I have. It's codenamed Hummingbard and I hope to release something in a few weeks. It'll

Deplatforming is a net positive (to me personally) if it helps establish more decentralized and free networks of communication. I feel like the timing is almost right, with all the emerging technologies from the past few years (matrix, fedi

Not quite the exact thing you want, but all image uploads on Gurlic are directly linkable. And they end up under the user's `/images` endpoint too. For eg: https://gurlic.com/bob/images All exif/metadata

The community platform I'm building was linked in a Voat thread about alternatives to move to, which led to a bit of traffic a few days ago. A number of people (20+) signed up but haven't posted any voat-like content yet. I suppos

Nice. Weather Report is great (Jaco!), and Zawinul's other band too, Syndicate. I'm happy John Mclaughlin is still playing. Here's a song from a couple weeks ago you might like! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v

Ah, thanks for sharing the song. Haven't heard it in a while. I was listening to Chick Corea's 80s material earlier today though. That era had a lot of cheesy sounding jazz fusion that I can't get enough of!

I recommend this great series on philosophy by Arthur Holmes. I watched them a few years ago. As someone who didn't do any philosophy courses in college, this helped me as a starting point to go explore in depth the philosophers that s

Some people on the /r/fasting subreddit go on for 40+ days. I settled into intermittent fasting routine and stopped thinking about extended fasts. I might give it a try. 5 days is quite extreme too, for me anyway.

Unrelated, but does anybody remember a site called astalavista.com? It had a lot of script kiddie tools, among them sub7, msn messenger flooders etc. I miss the early internet.

I've been meaning to try out barrier. How do you like it? Is it responsive/fast? I had synergy running across linux/mac machines a number of years ago and it wasn't super reliable back then..

It would be up to each instance to figure out how they want to monetize their community, or if they even want to. If there's more censorship at the payment layer, I don't see how crypto will be left alone.
