There are a lot of web sites which will not work without JavaScript. I am not sure why so many people do not like JavaScript but it seems to work well. The other reason Google will always support JavaScript on web sites is because advertis

Google will never tell you how the ranking algorithm works because if they did, the ranking algorithm would be gamed. Basically, the problem is a lot of people will try to get less relevant content to rank higher than the best content. If

Amazon’s AWS has good customer service. I get good customer service at the Apple Store, and I also got good customer service when Microsoft had retail stores. I have used Azure’s customer service and it was OK. Amazon’s AWS is know for o

Do you have a source for this? I suspect search makes at least 75% of Google’s profits.

Also, Blizzard recently released Diablo 4. Finally, you do not need a license to use DirectX. It’s a public API.

This is excellent advice. Another thing I will add is if something is not ethical, misleading, or dishonest, just do not do it. The world will be a better place if people behave ethically. Also, I strongly suspect that long term success

It's better to pay taxes on profits than to lose money and not pay takes. The reason is very simple. If you pay taxes, you keep the portion of money you made. If you lose the money, you have nothing. Note, I suspect that the Alexa

Retail is extremely competitive. Amazon does not have the best prices, and has a horrible experience for shopping. It's basically a specialized search engine with lots of ads at this point. Also, the things which made Amazon shoppin

The basic problem is Alex never had a business plan, which means Amazon never figured out how to build a profitable (sustainable) business. It also looks like Alexa's leadership gamed internal metrics to make Alexa look far more succe

Agreed - The worst part is most of the people making these unhelpful comments are probably doing the same sorts of things which caused this outage.

Thank you for pointing this out. Whenever I read articles about security, or reliability failures, it seems like the majority of the commenters assume that the person or organization which made the mistake is a bunch of bozos. The fact is

Boeing has been losing market share to AirBus for decades. That is what happens when you cannot fix your problems, sell a safe product, keep costs in line, etc.

Not caring about the actual product will eventually kill a company. All companies have to constantly work to maintain and grow their customer base. Customers will eventually figure out if a company is selling snake oil, or a shoddy produc

Probably not - The reason we continue to see attacks is for a couple of reasons: 1) There are very few consequences. At worst, a hacker will get 5-7 years, and the chance of getting caught is low. 2) Security is very very very hard. The d

Skype for Business has very little to do with Skype the consumer application. Skype for Business used to be called Lync. It's a messaging, and communication application for business users. It was replaced by MS Teams.

Thank you for pointing this out. I doubt that their patches always (or even frequently) fix the underlying security issue. It is a lot harder to patch something when you don't have access to the source code, and to a test team which

I suspect that these patches frequently do not fix the security bug. Basically, if you care about security, you should use software supported by the vender, or open-source team which produces the software.

The biggest group of people paying lip service to security are software engineers, and ops people. Both groups regularly choose implementation speed, and reduced work over sound security practices. A good example of this is in C/C++.

The OP never said ShotSpotter is selling A and B. The OP is making a general statement. Note I could see ShotSpotter combined with something else as being an effective crime fighting tool. I could also see ShotSpotter never working well.

I am not sure why this comment is being down voted. It's true. A good example is the combination of psychotherapy, and psychiatric drugs is the best solution for many mental illnesses. Using either one alone is less effective.
