This has not been true since the 1980s. Note that even before that, it was a fairy tale because no one can foresee the future, and when things get bad, even loyal employees have to go because there is no money to pay them (if companies kep

Unfortunately, a corporation cannot be jailed because it is a legal fiction. It's not sentient. It's just a collection of people (employees), assets, contracts, etc. RE: "I'm particularly concerned by their abillity to

I think you are right. One point I would make is being polite, truthful, and treating others with respect should not be punished. Especially when legitimate problems are being raised.

I am sorry. It is always very very very hard when a manager or organization punishes people for telling the truth or trying to do the right thing.

This is a very good comment because it shows how pervasive the problem is. In this case, the tax investigator was punished for doing a very good job.

My guess is what they meant was there is a policy prohibiting retaliation and the legal department never condones retaliation and it tries to prevent it. Unfortunately, employees outside of the legal department may retaliate anyway because

I have never seen the Federal government pick up the tab for a railroad accident it did not cause or was not involved in. Could you please go into more detail?

This is general problem anytime there is a person or organization which looks for problems. When a problem is found, an organization has two basic approaches: 1) Acknowledge the problem, prioritize fixing it, and then fix the problems in p

There is no obsession with making companies a legal person. It's done because it works, it's convenient, and it allows us to create giant organizations. The thing you have to think about is what does it mean when someone says a c

I think nervous laughter is another good explanation. One thing I forgot to put in my original comment (which you replied to) is none of us know what she was thinking. I think we should give both parents the benefit of the doubt until we h

I don’t think it’s strange. His parents are human and humans have emotions. I am not surprised Sam Bankman-Fried’s parents expressed their emotions while watching their sun in court. I bet it was really hard for them and I do not think t

Your comment about his mother laughing in court is misleading. She did laugh in court BUT you did not include the context. Here is what Coin Desk said: “Bankman-Fried’s parents, Joe Bankman and Barbara Fried, were seated in the third row

You don't need special cores. One thing a lot of people do not seem to realize is compilers do not use the full instruction set. They use a subset and this subset is what has to be fast. Here are the common x86 instructions I rememb

You are correct. It was part of the .NET Framework, and it did work on Windows XP. The team which created it was part of the Windows organization and I believe it required changes to Windows to get it to work or run fast. I suspect this

I never heard that term internally (it's possible it was used in some parts of the organization, but it was not used in my part). I know some new APIs used .NET and I suspect that there were some apps which used .NET/C#, VB, etc.

Longhorn was slow but I doubt garbage collection was the main cause for its poor performance. First, it was mostly written in C and C++ (remember, Microsoft does not rewrite Windows, it evolves it). Second, the reason it was slow was some

A small correction on the redo step. What you are talking about was called the Windows Security Push and this is how it worked. Basically, every developer (not just the senior ones) had to help review every line of code in Windows. First,

Microsoft never tried to rewrite Windows in C# during the Vista project. I know this because I worked on Vista and my team wrote code in C++. Vista did include some new C# APIs and Frameworks. The best ones were Windows Presentation Found
