Does anyone know how much of this industry crisis is based on a reliance of selling higher priced (and presumably higher margin) hard cover books?

Why not just browse successful kickstarter film projects and do this with stuff that people have already made? Wouldn't that be faster way to see whether it can work?

It can't quite be the Golden Rule .. "Do unto others as you'd have done unto you". I'm an atheist. I have zero holy places to profane. And yet I do think it is immoral to profane someone's holy place, despite my belief that it is a social

An intellectual argument about morals requires a basis upon which to argue. There are psychology researchers doing work in this area: http://www.yourmorals.org/aboutus.php Is it moral to wear shoes into a Indian temple? How do you argue

Odd. I'd think polishing the PoS idea you thought was an MVP was a more likely problem. I know that would be my tendency. I'd need someone crazy helping me jump into trouble: http://www.sebastianmarshall.com/inventors-who-want-to-do-bu..

This is mostly spot on. But I believe there is a part about decreasing parallelism that is subtly wrong. The posts specific arguments against parallelism seem to imply the optimal way to create shared understanding is to locate it in a si

This is not a mistake. For me, $200 and low expectations make this a great value. Amazon's not building an iPad competitor, and failing to meet that expectation isn't an excuse not to build the Kindle Fire.

"Which of those answers is the correct one?" is not a problem if you are soliciting a list ... that's sometimes the point of the question. "The single right answer is what SO was designed to help us find" is precisely the community norm tha

The SO software is actually quite good for accumulating lists. It's the SO community that does not allow these questions. From what I can tell the SO moderators are evangelically convinced that any question involving an opinion (other tha

The Kindle Fire is wifi-only, and Silk is only on the Kindle Fire. They are probably optimizing battery and latency. Bandwidth is important but not as important as if they had to deal with 3g.

I found it hard to get past this statement: "The last risk was Windows Vista and that was a risk done by necessity so that the OS could keep up with OS X’s speed." This opinion seems like an anachronism. Go to the Vista wiki page and every

You are not being hyperbolic. The promise of strong encapsulation is very compelling, but this pattern is only appropriate for Modules (hence the name). I suspect many JS developers head down this blind alley and get burned.

I had the same reaction. It seems like DNT is more notable for reducing interest and effort in actual solutions. However, the EFF (whose opinion on this I'd trust) appears to indicate DNT is complimentary with things like AdBlock and IE's

There are a couple of possible points in this article. One is bemoaning the quality of the problems (not the solution) attacked by startups. Is the startup curing cancer? Or enabling a more advanced form of ironic hipsterism? Of course c

Does anyone know why the FOX considers an 8 day delay superior to a 6 day delay? Both are 'about' a week, but one sets you up to start watching the show live, while the other sets you up to stop watching the show.
