This security-hole is for people surfing unencrypted networks. There are warnings you get from windows when you connect to such a network. I can assume OSX does the same. The ferret and hamster tools did the same thing, just not packaged as

Probably some motive against one of the customers. If you can extort some cash out of a gambling site with short dns-ttl it could be worth your effort. Maybe the target's data center is more ddos-proof than the one from easydns, extortionis

Well, I connect to my workstation on my laptop with remote desktop. This way I can use my netbook on the road and still have the quadcore gpu, multiple vm's and the open tabs in firefox.

That's your choice of course. If you work in a small school it's easy to block unsuitable sites this way.Another alternative would be the level 3 dns servers, easy to remember, pretty fast and no alteration of records.

Just want to note they give users the incentive of extra space when a friend joins and installs the application. They also have a nice tracking tool to 'spy' on which people showed interest and how far in the registration-process they got.

Drupal has become a known brand over the years, seems no more than prudent to protect it. The software is GPL, so your rights are safe. You can take the code and fork the hell out of it. You just can't call it "Steve0's Improved Drupal". I
